Proposal for an OFDM-based 802.16 BWA Air Interface Physical Layer
نویسنده
چکیده
A Physical Layer based on OFDM modulation with parameters similar to 802.11a, HIPERLAN/2 and MMAC is presented. The PHY covers data rates of 6.7 to 60 Mbit/s with 20 MHz channel spacing. The OFDM based PHY exhibits, in addition to good link budget, excellent multipath robustness. Aligning the BWA PHY with a contemporary high-speed wireless LAN PHY standard will result in widely available, cost effective and high-performance solution. Purpose To present a proposal which will serve as a baseline of the BWA PHY layer. Notice This document has been prepared to assist the IEEE 802.16. IEEE Standard for Local and Metropolitan Area Networks Part 16: Air Interface for Fixed Broadband Wireless Access Systems - IEEE Std 802.16-2004 (Revision of IEEE Std 802.16-2001)
This standard specifies the air interface of fixed broadband wireless access (BWA) systems supporting multimedia services. The medium access control layer (MAC) supports a primarily point-to-multipoint architecture, with an optional mesh topology. The MAC is structured to support multiple physical layer (PHY) specifications, each suited to a particular operational environment. For operational f...

This paper investigates the Multi-band OFDM (MB-OFDM) based physical (PHY) layer proposal for IEEE 802.15.3a working group on short-range high data-rate Ultra-wide-Band (UWB) communications. An overview of the MB-OFDM PHY layer architecture with its various parameters is presented and the optimal choice of critical parameters is discussed. Next, we derive the theoretical un-coded Bit Error Rate...

متن کاملLink Adaptation Algorithm and Metric for IEEE Standard 802.16
(ABSTRACT) Broadband wireless access (BWA) is a promising emerging technology. In the past, most BWA systems were based on proprietary implementations. The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.16 task group recently standardized the physical (PHY) and medium-access control (MAC) layers for BWA systems. To operate in a wide range of physical channel conditions, the standa...
