Monitoring of Rice-planted Areas Using Space-borne Sar Data

چکیده
The authors attempted to estimate rice-planted areas using multi-temporal RADARSAT fine-mode and ERS1/SAR data in an early period of rice-planting season. The eastern part of Hiroshima City, HigashiHiroshima City, was selected as the test field, and three multi-temporal RADARSAT fine-mode images and ERS-1/SAR images, taken before and after rice-planting were used as the test data. From the first two temporal data in RADARSAT and ERS-1/SAR data sets, SAR backscatter intensity in rice-planted fields was found to decrease significantly. From the last two temporal data, SAR backscatter intensity increased significantly due to the growth of planted rice. We evaluated the actual performance for rice area estimation by RADARSAT and ERS-1/SAR data by comparing with the estimated area by SPOT data and also with the results by the statistical report.

Complementarity of Two Rice Mapping Approaches: Characterizing Strata Mapped by Hypertemporal MODIS and Rice Paddy Identification Using Multitemporal SAR
Different rice crop information can be derived from different remote sensing sources to provide information for decision making and policies related to agricultural production and food security. The objective of this study is to generate complementary and comprehensive rice crop information from hypertemporal optical and multitemporal high-resolution SAR imagery. We demonstrate the use of MODIS...

A variation of the landslide activity is expected according to the climate change in the Alps, especially in permafrost environment. Mountain areas are not very well controlled by monitoring systems due to the high costs. Therefore, satellite data and especially repeatpass SAR interferometric techniques are an important option for the monitoring. In our contribution differential SAR interferome...
متن کاملRice Monitoring Using ENVISAT ASAR Data: Preliminary Results of a Case Study in the Mekong River Delta, Vietnam
ABSTRACT: Vietnam is one of the world’s largest rice exporting countries, and the fertile Mekong River Delta at the southern tip of Vietnam accounts for more than half of the country’s rice production. Unfortunately, a large part of rice crop growing time coincides with a rainy season, resulting in a limited number of cloud-free optical remote sensing images for rice monitoring. Synthetic apert...

This article presents the analysis of the Bragg scattering phenomenon which has been observed in the images of machineplanted rice paddies acquired by the JERS-1 L-band synthetic aperture radar (SAR). The simultaneous measurements of rice plants were made at the SAR data acquisition times. Large differences of 20–25 dB in image intensity between the transplanting and ripening stages are found t...
متن کاملAn Operational Rice Field Mapping Tool Using Spaceborne Sar Data
Rice is of significant importance for many tropical countries, both as a staple food and as an agricultural product for international trading. Crucial parameters for yield forecasting are the area of the rice fields and the rice growth status. Spaceborne microwave remote sensing is a technology that permits mapping and monitoring of the rice growth over large areas at regular intervals. This pa...
