چکیده

We present a closed-form expression for the irradiance at a point on a surface due to an arbitrary polygonal Lambertian luminaire with linearly-varying radiant exitance. The solution consists of elementary functions and a single wellbehaved special function that can be either approximated directly or computed exactly in terms of classical special functions such as Clausen’s integral or the closely related dilogarithm. We first provide a general boundary integral that applies to all planar luminaires and then derive the closed-form expression that applies to arbitrary polygons, which is the result most relevant for global illumination. Our approach is to express the problem as an integral of a simple class of rational functions over regions of the sphere, and to convert the surface integral to a boundary integral using a generalization of irradiance tensors. The result extends the class of available closed-form expressions for computing direct radiative transfer from finite areas to differential areas. We provide an outline of the derivation, a detailed proof of the resulting formula, and complete pseudo-code of the resulting algorithm. Finally, we demonstrate the validity of our algorithm by comparison with Monte Carlo. While there are direct applications of this work, it is primarily of theoretical interest as it introduces much of the machinery needed to derive closed-form solutions for the general case of luminaires with radiance distributions that vary polynomially in both position and direction.

Simulating Non-Lambertian Phenomena Involving Linearly-Varying Luminaires

We present a new technique for exactly computing glossy reflections and transmissions of polygonal Lambertian luminaires with linearly-varying radiant exitance. To derive the underlying closed-form expressions, we introduce a rational generalization of irradiance tensors and an associated recurrence relation. The generalized tensors allow us to integrate a useful class of rational polynomials o...

Closed-Form Expressions for Irradiance from Non-Uniform Lambertian Luminaires Part II : Polynomially-Varying Radiant Exitance

We present new analytical techniques for computing illumination from non-uniform luminaires. The methods are based on new closed-form expressions derived by generalizing the concepts of irradiance tensor and angular moment to rational forms and an arbitrary number of directions, known as rational irradiance tensors and rational angular moments, respectively. The techniques apply to any emission...

Exact Elasticity Solutions for Thick-Walled FG Spherical Pressure Vessels with Linearly and Exponentially Varying Properties

In this paper, exact closed-form solutions for displacement and stress components of thick-walled functionally graded (FG) spherical pressure vessels are presented. To this aim, linear variation of properties, as an important case of the known power-law function model is used to describe the FG material distribution in thickness direction. Unlike the pervious studies, the vessels can have arbit...

Closed-form analytical solution procedure for element design in D regions

This paper presents a novel procedure for solving the equations system of the rotating crack model used for reinforced concrete. It is implemented in the programme NonOPt where it is used to optimise the reinforcement design of D regions. The procedure is based on solving explicit closed-form relations without the need to incrementally increase the applied loads. The solution procedure is based...

BUCKLING ANALYSIS OF FUNCTIONALLY GRADED MINDLIN PLATES SUBJECTED TO LINEARLY VARYING IN-PLANE LOADING USING POWER SERIES METHOD OF FROBENIUS

In this paper, buckling behavior of moderately thick functionally graded rectangular plates resting on elastic foundation subjected to linearly varying in-plane loading is investigated. The neutral surface position for a functionally graded plate which its material properties vary in the thickness direction is determined. Based on the first-order shear deformation plate theory and the neutral s...
