Analysis and Prediction of Museum Visitors' Behavioral Pattern Types

چکیده
Personalization in the “museum visit” scenario is extremely challenging, especially since in many cases visitors come to the museum for the first, and may be the last time in their life. There is therefore a need to generate an effective user model quickly without any prior knowledge. Furthermore, the initial definition of a user model is also challenging since it should be built in a non-intrusive manner. Understanding visitors’ behavioral patterns may help in initializing their user models and supporting them better. This chapter reports three stages of analysis of behavior patterns of museum visitors. The first step assesses, following past ethnographic research, whether a distinct stereotype of behavior can be identified; the second shows that visitors' behavior is not always consistent; the third shows that, in spite of the inconsistency, prediction of visitor type, is possible.

متن کاملMeeting Visitors' Expectations - The Perceived Degree of Museumness
Defining a physical or virtual space as a museum, seems to have clear implications on visitors’ behaviour and particularly learning behaviour. Past research shows that it is essential to identify different museum types and consider their similarities, differences and special features in order to be able to make valid research hypotheses. However, visitors would not always define certain types o...
متن کاملAn analysis of visitors' behavior in the Louvre Museum: A study using Bluetooth data
Museums often suffer from so‐called ‘hypercongestion’, wherein the number of visitors exceeds the capacity of the physical space of the museum. This can potentially be detrimental to the quality of visitors’ experiences, through disturbance by the behavior and presence of other visitors. Although this situation can be mitigated by managing visitors’ flow between spaces, a detailed analysis of v...
متن کاملVisualizing, clustering, and predicting the behavior of museum visitors
Fine-arts museums design exhibitions to educate, inform and entertain visitors. Existing work leverages technology to engage, guide and interact with the visitors, neglecting the need of museum staff to understand the response of the visitors. Surveys and expensive observational studies are currently the only available data source to evaluate visitor behavior, with limits of scale and bias. In ...
