For quench temperatures just below the transition temperature the phase ordering occurs by simple coarsening under the action of surface tension. For sufficient low temperatures however the straightening of the interface between domains drives the system toward a metastable disordered state, identified as a glassy state. Escaping from this state occurs, if the quench temperature is nonzero, by a thermal activated dynamics that eventually drives the system toward the equilibrium state.

Glassy states in lattice models with many coexisting crystalline phases
We study the emergence of glassy states after a sudden cooling in lattice models with short range interactions and without any a priori quenched disorder. The glassy state emerges whenever the equilibrium model possesses a sufficient number of coexisting crystalline phases at low temperatures, provided the thermodynamic limit be taken before the infinite time limit. This result is obtained thro...
متن کاملThe Glassy Potts Model
We introduce a Potts model with quenched, frustrated disorder, that enjoys of a gauge symmetry that forbids spontaneous magnetization, and allows the glassy phase to extend from Tc down to T = 0. We study numerical the 4 dimensional model with q = 4 states. We show the existence of a glassy phase, and we characterize it by studying the probability distributions of an order parameter, the binder...
متن کاملLattice Models of Disorder with Order
This paper describes the use of simple lattice models for studying the properties of structurally disordered systems like glasses and granulates. The models considered have crystalline states as ground states, finite connectivity, and are not subject to constrained evolution rules. After a short review of some of these models, the paper discusses how two particularly simple kinds of models, the...
متن کاملThe Cavity Approach for Metastable Glassy States Near Random First Order Phase Transitions
Ii is shown that trie cavity method developed to describe equilibrium states in trie mean-field Ising spin glass model con be generalized to describe metastable stores in trie mean-field Potts glass. Trie crucial input is trie existence of an extensive number of statistically similar but incongruent metastable states with a weighted Gaussian free energy distribution. It is argued that the inher...
متن کاملSolving a Stochastic Cellular Manufacturing Model by Using Genetic Algorithms
This paper presents a mathematical model for designing cellular manufacturing systems (CMSs) solved by genetic algorithms. This model assumes a dynamic production, a stochastic demand, routing flexibility, and machine flexibility. CMS is an application of group technology (GT) for clustering parts and machines by means of their operational and / or apparent form similarity in different aspects ...
