چکیده

This work contains a brief review of the lattice Boltzmann method. Specifically, Shan-Chen pseudopotential approach is described in details to simulate two immiscible components and understand the deformation of a droplet in a shear velocity. We also discuss the stability of the model in terms of different parameters and effects of those parameters on deformation of the droplet. Furthermore, the main drawbacks of the model are pointed including spurious currents, break of conservativeness, and diffusive –interface. Finally, we are concerned with comparative study of our model. In this content we compare our results with the interface tracking method which is coupled to Navier-Stokes equation to simulate two phase flows. Our comparison indicates that both methods track the same interface if the critical parameters in Shan-Chen simulation selected cautiously according to the stability constraints.

Evaluation of two lattice Boltzmann methods for fluid flow simulation in a stirred tank

In the present study, commonly used weakly compressible lattice Boltzmann method and Guo incompressible lattice Boltzmann method have been used to simulate fluid flow in a stirred tank. For this purpose a 3D Parallel code has been developed in the framework of the lattice Boltzmann method. This program has been used for simulation of flow at different geometries such as 2D channel fluid flow an...

A lattice Boltzmann method for immiscible multiphase flow simulations using the level set method

We consider the lattice Boltzmann method for immiscible multiphase flow simulations. Classical lattice Boltzmann methods for this problem, e.g. the colour gradient method or the free energy approach, can only be applied when density and viscosity ratios are small. Moreover, they use additional fields defined on the whole domain to describe the different phases and model phase separation by spec...

A Lattice Boltzmann Model for Multi-phase Fluid Flows

We develop a lattice Boltzmann equation method for simulating multi-phase immiscible fluid flows with variation of density and viscosity, based on the model proposed by Gunstensen et al[9] for two-component immiscible fluids. The numerical measurements of surface tension and viscosity agree well with theoretical predictions. Several basic numerical tests, including spinodal decomposition, two-p...

Lattice Boltzmann modeling of two component gas diffusion in solid oxide fuel cell

In recent years, the need for high efficiency and low emission power generation systems has made much attention to the use of fuel cell technology. The solid oxide fuel cells due to their high operating temperature (800 ℃ -1000 ℃) are suitable for power generation systems.Two-component gas flow (H2 and H2O) in the porous media of solid oxide fuel cell’s anode have been modeled via lattice Boltz...
