The production of proton and lepton fluxes in near Earth orbit

چکیده

Substantial fluxes of protons and leptons with energies below the geomagnetic cutoff have been measured by the AMS experiment at altitudes of 370-390 Km, in the latitude interval ±51.7. The production mechanisms of the observed trapped fluxes are investigated in detail by means of the FLUKA Monte Carlo simulation code. All known processes involved in the interaction of the cosmic protons with the atmosphere (detailed descriptions of the magnetic field and atmospheric density, as well as the electromagnetic and nuclear interaction processes) are included in the simulation. The results are presented and compared with the experimental data, indicating good agreement with the observed fluxes. The impact of secondary proton flux on particle production in atmosphere is briefly discussed.

Origin of leptons in near earth orbit

It is shown that the ratio of the e + over e − flux below the geomagnetic cutoff reported recently by the AMS experiment is due to the geomagnetic East-West effect. New measurements of particle fluxes close to earth have been performed recently by the AMS experiment, providing a body of highly accurate new data on particle populations in the close terrestrial environment, which open new prospec...

Performance Evaluation of the High-altitude Launch Technique to Orbit Using Atmospheric Properties

The purpose of this paper is to perform the feasibility and performance evaluation of the High-altitude launch technique using high altitude atmospheric Properties to near earth orbits. The current propulsion transportation system from Earth to space has been deemed by many to be expensive, unreliable, and an unnecessarily dangerous means of travel to space. It is suggested in this paper to ana...

30TH INTERNATIONAL COSMIC RAY CONFERENCE Unusual solar energetic proton fluxes at 1 AU within an interplanetary CME

In mid December 2006 several flares on the Sun occurred in rapid succession, spawning several CMEs and bathing the Earth in multiple solar energetic particle (SEP) events. One such SEP occurring on December 15th was observed at the Earth just as an interplanetary CME (ICME) from a previous flare on December 13th was transiting the Earth. Although solar wind observations during this time show ty...

Energetic particle fluxes in the exterior cusp and the high-latitude dayside magnetosphere: statistical results from the Cluster/RAPID instrument

In this paper we study the fluxes of energetic protons (30–4000 keV) and electrons (20–400 keV) in the exterior cusp and in the adjacent high-latitude dayside plasma sheet (HLPS) with the Cluster/RAPID instrument. Using two sample orbits we demonstrate that the Cluster observations at high latitudes can be dramatically different because the satellite orbit traverses different plasma regions for...

The Effect of Solar Particles in the Choice of Alloy Shielding in a Satellite

The damages and logical failures in dierent parts of a satellite may occur during a solar event, when a bulk of solar energetic particles approaching the Earth. During solar events, these particles may cause extensive damages which are even permanent (hard errors). A way of damage reduction is designing a proper coating as the fuselage. As protons are the major component of solar particles and ...
