Ambrosia artemisiifolia – a motivation for European-wide control

چکیده
Introduction Common ragweed (Ambrosia artemisiifolia L.) or simply ambrosia is an annual shrub of North American origin. It has been present in Europe since ~1860 (HEGI, 1908) arriving probably through polluted clover seed grains and hay and straw from North America. Highly infested regions in Europe are the French Rhone valley, the Italian Po valley and some former Yugoslavian states, as well as Hungary. For about 15 years its abundance has been increasing in other countries of Europe – among them Switzerland.

Distribution of Invasive Weed Ambrosia artemisiifolia L. in Croatia
Ambrosia artemisiifolia L., is an invasive alien plant in Europe that has been the subject of research of many scientifi c disciplines, particularly in last twenty years. In addition to being known as a noxious weed, it came into the public interest as a source of very strong allergenic pollen that causes allergic responses in 10% of the Croatian population, a fi gure similar to that of other E...

Invasion by the exotic herb Ambrosia artemisiifolia L. has become a serious agricultural and environmental problem and of increasing research interest as the species continues its southward spread into subtropical regions of China. To better understand the possible physiological and morphological adaptations of A. artemisiifolia in this region, we conducted a greenhouse experiment using seedlin...

OBJECTIVE: Because the prevalence and pattern of IgE-mediated hypersensitivity to inhalant allergens may vary between different European regions, our goal was to evaluate ragweed aeroallergen sensitization in allergic rhinitis patients from the central part of the Romanian Plain, located in the southern part of the country. MATERIAL AND METHODS: In a two-year period we recruited patients with a...

متن کاملHigh outcrossing in the annual colonizing species Ambrosia artemisiifolia (Asteraceae).
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Variation in mating patterns may be particularly evident in colonizing species because they commonly experience wide variation in plant density. Here, the role of density for the mating system of Ambrosia artemisiifolia (common ragweed), a wind-pollinated annual colonizing species previously reported as self-compatible, is explored. METHODS The effect of population density...
