Realization Utility with Reference-Dependent Preferences
نویسنده
چکیده
We develop a tractable model of realization utility that studies the role of referencedependent S-shaped preferences in a dynamic investment setting with reinvestment. Our model generates both voluntarily realized gains and losses. It makes specific predictions about the volume of gains and losses, the holding periods, and the sizes of both realized and paper gains and losses that can be calibrated to a variety of statistics, including Odean’s measure of the disposition effect. Our model also predicts several anomalies, including, among others, the flattening of the capital market line and a negative price for idiosyncratic risk. (JEL G02, G11, G12)

Investigating the Role of real Money Balances in Households' Preferences function in the Framework of the Assets Pricing Models (M-CCAPM): Case study of Iran
In this paper, we try to develop and modify the basic model of the consumption-based capital asset pricing model by adding the growth in real money balances rate as a risk factor in the household's utility function as (M-CCAPM). For this purpose, two forms of utility function with constant relative risk aversion (CRRA) preferences and recursive preferences have been used such that M1 and M2 are...
متن کاملBi-objective Build-to-order Supply Chain Problem with Customer Utility
Taking into account competitive markets, manufacturers attend more customer’s personalization. Accordingly, build-to-order systems have been given more attention in recent years. In these systems, the customer is a very important asset for us and has been paid less attention in the previous studies. This paper introduces a new build-to-order problem in the supply chain. This study focuses on bo...
متن کاملReference Dependent Preferences and the Impact of Wage Increases on Job Satisfaction: Theory and Evidence
Reference Dependent Preferences and the Impact of Wage Increases on Job Satisfaction: Theory and Evidence The impact of wage increases on job satisfaction is explored theoretically and empirically. To do this, we apply a utility function that rises with the absolute wage level as well as with wage increases. It is shown that when employees can influence their wages by exerting effort, myopic ut...
متن کاملIntertemporal Incentives Under Loss Aversion
This paper studies the intertemporal allocation of incentives in a repeated moral hazard model with reference-dependent preferences as in Kőszegi and Rabin (2009). Besides consumption utility, the agent experiences utility from the change in his beliefs about present and future effort and income. When effort plans are rational, the prospect of being disappointed by the outcome realization equal...
متن کاملAn Alternative to Prospect Theory
This paper presents a new approach to decision-making under risk. Preference over risky prospects is defined as a triadic reference-dependent relation in a sense similar to Sugden (2003). Characterized by a set of von Neumann-Morgenstern-style axioms, a new reference-dependent representation theory – called compound utility theory (CUT) – is obtained which accommodates nonlinear preferences (in...
