Interstitial fluid, plasma protein, colloid, and leukocyte uptake into initial lymphatics.
Lymphatics serve to remove from the interstitium a range of materials, including plasma proteins, colloid materials, and cells. Lymph flow rates can be enhanced by periodic tissue compression or venous pressure elevation, but little is known to what degree enhancement of lymph flow affects material transport. The objective was to examine the uptake of plasma proteins, a colloidal perflubron emu...
متن کاملDifferent role of CD73 in leukocyte trafficking via blood and lymph vessels.
CD73 is involved in the extracellular ATP metabolism by dephosphorylating extracellular AMP to adenosine and thus regulating permeability of the blood vessels and leukocyte traffic into the tissues. It is also present on lymphatic vessels where its distribution and function have not been characterized. We found that CD73 is expressed on a subpopulation of afferent lymph vessels but is absent on...
متن کاملProtective role of the lymphatics from sepsis.
The lymphatic system has long been thought to function as a secondary fluid drainage system for the blood circulation and has received considerably less scientific and medical attention than the blood vascular system. Many biological and medical textbooks only describe the lymphatics as a network of passive channels that drain and transport tissue fluids, immune cells, and intestinal nutrients ...
متن کاملFunctional intratumoral lymphatics in patient-derived xenograft models of squamous cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix: implications for lymph node metastasis
Studies of cell line-derived human tumor xenografts have suggested that the lymphatics seen in immunohistochemical preparations from non-peripheral regions of tumors are nonfunctional. In this investigation, lymphangiogenesis, hemangiogenesis, and lymph node metastasis were studied in patient-derived xenograft (PDX) models of carcinoma of the uterine cervix. Lymph vessel density (LVD) and blood...
متن کاملThe lymphatics of the skin filled by a dermal backflow: an observation in a scarred cadaver leg.
There have been few photographic studies done on lymphatics of human skin with previous images obtained by indirect dye injection into the dermis. We have developed a direct injection technique for investigating the lymphatic system in human adult cadavers and used this to investigate superficial lymphatics of the legs in a fresh human cadaver. We found an unusual observation in a skin graft sc...
