چکیده

The heat transfer problem of a moving heat source along the surface of a half space was studied analytically and numerically. For the 2D problem, the heat source was a strip moving source and for the 3D problem, the heat source was a square moving source. Analytical solutions are available only for adiabatic conditions as given by Carslaw and Jaeger [H.S. Carslaw, J.C. Jaeger, Conduction of Heat in Solid, second ed.,Clarendon Press, Oxford, 1959, pp. 269–270; H.S. Carslaw, J.C. Jaeger, Conduction of Heat in Solid, second ed., Clarendon Press, Oxford, 1959; J.C. Jaeger, J. Proc. R. Soc. N. S. W. 76 (1943) 203–224]. With convection cooling over the surface of the half space, finite element method was used to simulate the transient heat transfer process. It was found that, for the same heat source, the shape of temperature contour over the contact interface was not s m t o f h ©

Experimental and Numerical Investigations in Shallow Cut Grinding by Workpiece Integrated Infrared Thermopile Array

The purpose of our study is to investigate the heat distribution and the occurring temperatures during grinding. Therefore, we did both experimental and numerical investigations. In the first part, we present the integration of an infrared thermopile array in a steel workpiece. Experiments are done by acquiring data from the thermopile array during grinding of a groove in a workpiece made of st...

Surface Layer Properties of the Workpiece Material in High Performance Grinding

This paper focuses on the development of high temperatures in the cutting zone during high performance grinding. In order to identify the infl uence of grinding temperature on surface integrity, temperatures were measured in the workpiece surface layer under diff erent machining conditions. Beside this, under the same conditions, the surface layer properties of the workpiece material were deter...

Surface hardness improvement in high efficiency deep grinding process by optimization of operating parameters

The grinding is one of the most important methods that directly affects tolerances in dimensions, quality and finished surface of products. One of the major problems in the material removal processes specially grinding is the heat generation during the process and the residual tensile stress in the surfaces of product. Therefore, optimization of High Efficiency Deep Grinding (HEDG) process is t...

Realisation of grinding-hardening in workpieces of curved surfaces—Part 1 Plunge cylindrical grinding

This paper investigates the feasibility to achieve grinding-hardening in a plunge cylindrical grinding process. To understand the mechanisms, a temperature-dependent finite element heat transfer model incorporating a triangular moving heat source was developed to describe the temperature field, thus to predict the thickness of the grinding-hardened layer. The analysis carried out included the v...
