The study hows that frequency of rule ,application depends not only on phonological environments, but also on frequency of occurrence of specific words. That is, some rules.are highly word-dependent, others are more phonoltigically 4governed. This relationship betWeen rule application and word frequency suggests that different kinds of phonological variation should be represented in different ways in the lexicon and phonological rule components of a speech undeTstanding system. متن کاملProduction and perception of clear speech in Croatian and English.
Previous research has established that naturally produced English clear speech is more intelligible than English conversational speech. The major goal of this paper was to establish the presence of the clear speech effect in production and perception of a language other than English, namely Croatian. A systematic investigation of the conversational-to-clear speech transformations across languag...
متن کاملModelling Phonological Rules through Linguistic Hierarchies1
This paper describes our research aimed at acquiring a generalized probability model for alternative phonetic realizations in conversational speech. The approach begins with the application of a set of ordered context-dependent phonological rules, applied to the baseforms in the recognizer’s lexicon. The probability model is acquired by observing specific realizations expressed in a large train...

This paper presents the first large-scale analysis of pronunciation variation in conversational Austrian German. Whereas for the varieties of German spoken in Germany, conversational speech has been given noticeable attention in the fields of linguistics and automatic speech recognition, for conversational Austrian there is a lack in speech resources and tools as well as linguistic and phonetic...

Phonetic transcription is a core procedure of continuous speech recognition systems and speech synthesizers. The more correct phonetic translation is the more successful applications using phonetic transcription are. Phonological rules translate text to graphemes. These rules significantly reduce size of databases with words and it’s phonetic transcription and speeds up transcription process. T...
