چکیده

Cementless modular stemwas designed to allow the surgeon to independently match the anatomy of the metaphyseal and diaphyseal regions of the femoral canal of an individual patient.1 S-ROM stem (DePuy/Johnson & Johnson), which has a hollow proximal sleeve and separate cylindrical core, was introduced in 1984. So far, long-term results of this prosthesis have been excellent in osteoarthritis, developmental dysplasia of hip, multiple epiphyseal dysplasia, and revision surgery.2–4 However, fretting and generation of metallic wear debris from the modular sleeve-stem junction and femoral stem-sleeve junction failure remain concerns.3,5 In addition, long-term results using this type of modular cementless femoral stem in patients with femoral head osteonecrosis has not yet been determined. Femoral head osteonecrosis commonly occurs in younger adults than osteoarthritis of the hip. Total hip arthroplasty (THA) with use of traditional metal-on-polyethylene articulation in osteonecrotic patients was associated excessive wear, osteolysis, and early loosening.6 Since the late 1990s, hard bearings (metal-on-metal and ceramic-on-ceramic bearings) have been used as alternatives to themetal-on-polyethylene articulation.7,8

Total Hip Arthroplasty with Modular Stem for Dysplastic Hips in South Asian Population

Introduction: Optimum component positioning and orientation is required to optimize the functional result during total hip arthroplasty for dysplastic hips. Patients and methods: Sixty-two patients (66 hips) including 33 males and 29 females underwent total hip arthroplasty using modular stem prosthesis at an average age of 40.6 years (range 17 to 49 years). Nineteen hips were clas...

Revision hip arthroplasty in patients with a previous total hip replacement for osteonecrosis of the femoral head.

Patients with osteonecrosis of the femoral head are typically relatively young and active and often require high rates of revision after primary total hip arthroplasty. However, outcomes of revision hip arthroplasty in this patient population have rarely been reported in the literature. The authors conducted a retrospective review of 72 patients (75 hips) who underwent revision hip arthroplasty...

Cementless Total Hip Arthroplasty After an Iatrogenic Subtrochanteric Fracture due to Hardware Removal: A Case Report

Introduction: Total hip arthroplasty (THA) after proximal femoral fixation is a challenging procedure due to possible hardware-related complications. Case presentation: A 78-year-old female with hip osteoarthritis had a proximal femoral osteotomy fixed using a blade plate in the same femur 41 years ago. A two-step approach was planned. After a challenging...

Comparison of Total Hip Arthroplasty and Core Decompression in Avascular Necrosis of the Femoral Head after Taking Temgesic and Norgesic

Background: Osteonecrosis is common after taking Temgesic and Norgesic. This study intended to suggest the preferable surgical treatment in osteonecrosis patients who use these drugs. Methods: Twenty tree patients with hip osteonecrosis who were hospitalized in the Kerman hospitals after using Temgesic and Norgesic were followed for about 14 months from 2008 to 2010 (from a minimum of 2 months ...

Medium-term Outcomes of Cemented Prostheses and Cementless Modular Prostheses in Revision Total Hip Arthroplasty

There is an increasing trend towards cementless modular femoral prostheses for revision hip replacement surgery, especially in patients with severe proximal femoral bone defects. However, for minor femoral bone defects, the benefit of cementless modular is not clear. We designed a retrospective cross-sectional study to compare outcomes of the two femoral implant designs. There were no significa...
