چکیده

This project involves comparing two relational database servers using sections of the AS3AP industry standard benchmark. The two servers tested were Oracle 8.0.3, developed by the Oracle Corporation and MySQL 3.22.14b-gamma, developed by T.c.X DataKonsultAB. The servers were both installed on the same Intel-based hardware platform running the Red Hat Linux 5.2 operating system (kernel 2.0.36). All tests were conducted over a network on a fixed size database. The complexities of the queries were varied and the transactions per second were measured on the database server side to give an indication of relative performance.

Browser Web Server Intermediary ( Cgi ) Database Server

The current generation of object-relational databases can support complex data types including multimedia types. This paper describes some of the challenges and opportunities facing OR-DBMS technology in the web environment. The PREDAT OR project at Cornell is actively exploring some of these issues. We present initial directions that suggest that several standard system design and implementati...

Persistent Object Synchronization with Active Relational Databases

One of the most common client/server architectures in enterprise systems today is the combination of object-oriented applications with active relational database systems. With this combination, developers have to overcome a difficult problem: the impedance mismatch between object orientation and the relational model. To date, there are several incomplete approaches for describing the integratio...

Object Persistency for HEP data using an Object-Relational Database

We present an initial study of the object features of Oracle 9i – the first of the market-leading object-relational database systems that supports a true object model on the server side as well as an ODMG-style C++ language binding on the client side. We discuss how these features can be used to provide persistent object storage in the HEP environment.

An Agent-Based Approach to Extending the Native Active Capability of Relational Database Systems

Event-condition-action (or ECA) rules are used to capture active capability. While a number of research prototypes of active database systems have been built, ECA rule capability in Relational DBMSs is still very limited. In this paper, we address the problem of turning a traditional database management system into a full-fledged active database system without changing the underlying system. Th...

Hybrid Shipping Architectures: A Survey

Recent advances in relational database systems include distributed systems that can choose to execute portions of query processing functionality at server or client sites. A symmetric problem that has received little attention is the partitioning of client application functionality between client and server. This report presents a survey of the literature related to both of these partitioning p...
