Intermediary metabolism of carbohydrate by Erwinia amylovora.

چکیده
Erwinia amylovora ferments glucose to yield mainly ethanol, lactate, and carbon dioxide (Sutton and Starr, 1959). The initial steps in the o.xidation of glucose by this bacterium were reported by Katznelson (1955), who later (Katznelson, 1958) showed the presence of certain key enzymes of the Embden-Meyerhof pathway in sonic extracts. The present study, briefly summarized elsewhere (Sutton and Starr, 1958), extends our knowledge of the separate enzymatic steps and reports the results of tracer experiments which suggest the effective operation of the Embden-Meyerhof pathway in whole cells.

Molecular analysis of sucrose metabolism of Erwinia amylovora and influence on bacterial virulence.
Sucrose is an important storage and transport sugar of plants and an energy source for many phytopathogenic bacteria. To analyze regulation and biochemistry of sucrose metabolism of the fire blight pathogen Erwinia amylovora, a chromosomal fragment which enabled Escherichia coli to utilize sucrose as sole carbon source was cloned. By transposon mutagenesis, the scr regulon of E. amylovora was t...
متن کاملNew host plants of Erwinia amylovora in Bulgaria.
Nine strains of Erwinia amylovora were isolated from new host plants in Bulgaria--chokeberry and strawberry. The strains were characterized morphologically and biochemically using the API 20E and BIOLOG system. It was established that they showed three different API 20E metabolic profiles, not found by previous studies of E. amylovora. All strains were identified as E. amylovora due to their me...
متن کاملStructural Characterization of Core Region in Erwinia amylovora Lipopolysaccharide
Erwinia amylovora (E. amylovora) is the first bacterial plant pathogen described and demonstrated to cause fire blight, a devastating plant disease affecting a wide range of species including a wide variety of Rosaceae. In this study, we reported the lipopolysaccharide (LPS) core structure from E. amylovora strain CFBP1430, the first one for an E. amylovora highly pathogenic strain. The chemica...
متن کاملPhenotypic diversity of Erwinia amylovora in Bulgaria.
Fifty-one strains of Erwinia amylovora isolated from nine host plants in Bulgaria were characterized phenotypically and identified by the API 20E and BIOLOG system. The identification was confirmed by PCR amplification of a specific region of the plasmid pEA29 and the genome ams region. The phenotypic diversity of the strains was studied on the basis of their API 20E and BIOLOG metabolic profil...
متن کاملThe role of luxS in the fire blight pathogen Erwinia amylovora is limited to metabolism and does not involve quorum sensing.
Erwinia amylovora is a gram-negative phytopathogen that causes fire blight of pome fruit and related members of the family Rosaceae. We sequenced the putative autoinducer-2 (AI-2) synthase gene luxS from E. amylovora. Diversity analysis indicated that this gene is extremely conserved among E. amylovora strains. Quorum sensing mediated by LuxS has been implicated in coordinated gene expression, ...
