Quantum critical fluctuations in disordered d-wave superconductors.

چکیده
To explain the strong quasiparticle damping in the cuprates, Sachdev and collaborators proposed to couple the system to a critically fluctuating id(xy)- or is-order parameter mode. Here we generalize the approach to the presence of static disorder. In the id case, the order parameter dynamics becomes diffusive, but otherwise much of the phenomenology of the clean case remains intact. In contrast, the interplay of disorder and is-order parameter fluctuations leads to a secondary superconductor transition, with a critical temperature exponentially sensitive to the impurity concentration.

Nonperturbative microscopic theory of superconducting fluctuations near a quantum critical point.
We consider an anisotropic gap superconductor in the vicinity of the disorder-driven quantum critical point. Starting with the BCS Hamiltonian, we derive the Ginzburg-Landau action, which is a critical theory with the dynamic critical exponent, z=2. This allows us to use the parquet method to calculate the nonperturbative effect of quantum superconducting fluctuations on thermodynamics. We deri...

We study the Fulde-Ferrel-Larkin-Ovchinnikov (FFLO) superconducting state in the disordered systems. We analyze the microscopic model, in which the dwave superconductivity is stabilized near the antiferromagnetic quantum critical point, and investigate two kinds of disorder, namely, box disorder and point disorder, on the basis of the Bogoliubov-deGennes (BdG) equation. The spatial structure of...

Fluctuations near second-order quantum phase transitions in d-wave superconductors can cause strong damping of fermionic excitations, as observed in photoemission experiments. The damping of the gapless nodal quasiparticles can arise naturally in the quantum-critical region of a transition with an additional spin-singlet, zero momentum order parameter; we argue that the transition to a dx2−y2 +...

A summary is given of the main outcomes of the quantum-critical-point scenario for high-T c superconductors, developed in the last few years by the Rome group. Phase separation, which commonly occurs in strongly correlated electronic systems, turns into a stripe instability when Coulomb interaction is taken into account. The stripe phase continuously connects the high doping regime, dominated b...
