Stenosis of the Superior Mesenteric Artery.

چکیده
It has been known for many years that disease of the superior mesenteric artery can produce abdominal pain and other chronic symptoms in the absence of gangrene of the bowel or peritonitis (Klein, I921; Conner, 1933; Hertzler, 1935; Seymour and Liebow, I937), and that inevitably these symptoms terminate in acute bowel infarction. However, it is only recently, as the feasibility of direct arterial surgery has become apparent, that these clinical facts have acquired new significance and more attention has been paid to the pathological background of midgut ischaemia and the nature and extent of the occlusion in the superior mesenteric artery. The chronic symptoms of midgut ischaemia have been variously referred to as 'intermittent mesenteric claudication' (Klein, 1921), 'abdominal angina' (Larson, 193I), 'abdominal claudication ' (Conner, 1933), ' mesenteric stroke' (Klass, 1953), and 'intestinal angina' (Lancet, 1958). None of these terms seems as precise or as accurate as that of' chronic midgut ischaemia.'

The meandering mesenteric artery or central anastomotic artery.
A 50-year-old woman who was a heavy smoker presented with intermittent claudication of both lower extremities. An abdominal aortogram with bilateral lower extremity runoff demonstrated marked arteriosclerotic occlusive disease of the superficial femoral arteries. It also demonstrated a huge meandering mesenteric artery as an important collateral system (A). Note that the inferior mesenteric art...

Abstract Background: Thrombo-embolism occurs due to a lot of different etiologies and has a high rate of mortality. But septic embolus is a very uncommon type of embolism and this patient is reported as a septic mesenteric embolism. متن کاملUnruptured Giant Aneurysm of The Inferior Pancreaticoduodenal Artery with Superior Mesenteric Artery Stenosis Obstructed by Spontaneous Thrombosis After Superior Mesenteric Artery Angioplasty: A Case Report
Most pancreaticoduodenal artery aneurysms involve celiac trunk stenosis or occlusion. Few cases have been related to superior mesenteric artery (SMA) stenosis, and none of these was treated with SMA angioplasty before transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE) or operative resection of the aneurysm. We treated a 79-year-old woman with incidentally detected inferior pancreaticoduodenal artery ane...
متن کاملRole of duplex Doppler ultrasound in the assessment of patients with postprandial abdominal pain.
In 10 patients with postprandial abdominal pain thought likely to be the result of mesenteric ischaemia Doppler ultrasound examinations of the superior mesenteric and coeliac arteries were performed both after fasting and a standard meal of 800 kcal. Compared with control values Doppler waveform analysis suggested seven abnormal vessels. Two patients had abnormal fasting superior mesenteric art...
متن کاملIntestinal brucellosis associated with celiac artery and superior mesenteric artery stenosis and with ileum mucosa and submucosa thickening
RATIONALE Brucellosis is a multisystem infection found worldwide that has a broad range of characteristics, which range from acute fever and hepatomegaly to chronic infections that most commonly affect the central nervous system, cardiovascular system, or skeletal system. Gastrointestinal and splanchnic artery involvements in brucellosis are relatively uncommon. PATIENT CONCERNS We report a c...
متن کاملProminent gastroduodenal artery: Endosonographic sign of celiac artery stenosis
Celiac artery (CA) stenosis is a relatively common finding in patients undergoing pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD). In the presence of CA stenosis, arterial blood supply to the celiac territory is usually sustained from the superior mesenteric artery (SMA) through well-developed collaterals. In this paper, the authors report endosonographically identified prominent gastroduodenal artery as the sign...
