Estimating Supply Elasticity for Disaggregated Paper Products: A Primal Approach
نویسندگان
چکیده
Most existing elasticity estimates for the pulp and paper industry are based on aggregate products (e.g., total paper, paperboard, or paper except newsprint). Using United States data, we present and evaluate econometric output supply models for four relatively disaggregated paper products: newsprint paper (NP), printing/writing paper (PWP), tissue paper (TP), and packaging paper (PP). Sample periods vary from 14 years for PP (1987–2001) to 20 years for NP and PWP (1981–2001). Each paper type is specified using a two-stage least squares geometric distributed lag model in log–log form using monthly data. Estimated long-run (short-run) output price elasticities are 2.75 (0.69) for NP, 2.45 (1.07) for PWP, 1.77 (1.77) for TP, and 0.41 (0.24) for PP. Input demand elasticities for capital, wood fiber, labor, electricity, and wastepaper are also estimated for each paper type. FOR. SCI. 51(6):570–577.

Estimating the Elasticity of Electricity Demand in Iran: A Sectoral-Province Approach
E nergy is one of the main and essential factors in economic growth. Electricity as one of the most important resources of energy supply for economic sectors on one hand, and as an index of welfare, on the other hand, is one of the economic development benchmarks. The growth of GDP will increase the demand for energy resources, including electricity. Hence, policymakers should pay at...
متن کاملCoordination of pricing and cooperative advertising for perishable products in a two-echelon supply chain: A bi-level programming approach
In this article the coordination of pricing and cooperative advertising decisions in one-manufacturer one-retailer decentralized supply chain with different market power for channel members is studied. The products are both perishable and substitutable. The problem is modeled as a nonlinear bi-level programming problem to consider both retailer and manufacturer decisions about prices and advert...
متن کاملEstimating the Export Supply Function of Flowers Case Study: The Dutch Rose of Fars Province in the Region of Persian Gulf
The main purpose of this study was to determine the factors affecting the export of flowers in Iran. After data collection using by the index of Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA), the condition of business of flowers in Iran was compared with a number of countries exporting the product. According to the results of study, the small elasticity of the exportation price in the function of export...
متن کاملA Primal Decomposition Approach for the Supply Chain Investment Planning Problem under Demand Uncertainty
This paper presents the application of a primal decomposition algorithm for the problem of supply chain investment planning under uncertainty applied to the petroleum products supply chain. The uncertainty considered is related with the unknown demand levels for oil products. For this purpose, a model was developed based on two-stage stochastic programming. It is proposed two different solution...
متن کاملThe dynamics of substitution tensions between fossil energy carriers for gas consumption in Iran's transportation sector on the horizon of 2025
The present paper explains the dynamics of substitution tensions between fossil energy carriers for gas consumption in the transportation sector of Iran in the horizon of 2025 using seasonal space model and Kalman filter approach for the years 2006-2019 in the form of quarterly data. Based on the results; Price elasticity and revenue elasticity of gasoline and gas oil are -0.20, -0.15, 0.27 and...
