Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes from No-flow Alcohol Chemical Vapor Deposition and their Root Growth Mechanism

چکیده
We present the successful synthesis of aligned C labeled single-walled carbon nanotube (SWNT) arrays from alcohol by a modified no-flow chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method which makes possible efficient growth using a small amount of carbon source. Synthesis of high-quality SWNTs by this alternate method was confirmed by Resonance Raman spectroscopy, which also showed the quality is uniform during the growth. The synthesis of C labeled SWNTs provides clear and solid evidence for the root growth mechanism in alcohol CVD, which agrees well with the TEM observations.

Investigating the Growth Process of Vertically Aligned Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes Synthesized from Alcohol
We have performed a systematic investigation of the influence of growth parameters on the synthesis of vertically aligned single-walled carbon nanotubes (VA-SWNTs) by the alcohol catalytic chemical vapor deposition (ACCVD) method. The growth process of the VA-SWNTs was monitored using an in situ optical absorbance technique and the effects of CVD temperature and ethanol pressure on the initial ...
متن کاملA PARAMETRIC STUDY ON THE GROWTH OF SINGLE-WALLED CARBON NANOTUBES OVER CO-MO/MGO NANOCATALYST IN A FLUIDIZED BED REACTOR BY CCVD METHOD
Single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) with high yield and quality were synthesized using chemical vapor deposition (CVD) over Co-Mo/ MgO nanocatalyst in a fluidized bed reactor. Different parameters such as temperature, the ratio of hydrocarbon source to hydrogen, the flow rate of gas, growth time, the size of catalyst particles, heating rate, and the kind of hydrocarbon source were examined t...
متن کاملNovel and Simple Synthesis Method for Submillimeter Long Vertically Aligned Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes by No-Flow Alcohol Catalytic Chemical Vapor Deposition
Using a conventional thermal chemical vapor deposition (CVD) system, ethanol vapor was enclosed in a reactor, i.e., no flow, with Co/Mo dip-coated quartz substrates to synthesize submillimeter long vertically aligned single-walled carbon nanotube (SWNT) films successfully. The no-flow CVD method yielded an increase in film thickness of up to 0.11 mm compared with the normal flowing gas method f...

The lack of complete understanding of the substrate effects on carbon nanotubes (CNTs) growth poses a lot oftechnical challenges. Here, we report the direct growth of nanostructures such as the CNTs on stainless steel 304and brass substrates using thermal chemical vapor deposition (TCVD) process with C2H2 gas as carbon sourceand hydrogen as supporting gas mixed in Ar gas flow. We used an especi...
متن کاملMorphology and chemical state of Co-Mo catalysts for growth of single-walled carbon nanotubes vertically aligned on quartz substrates
Bimetallic catalysts (Co:Mo ≈ 2:1 in atomic ratio) were prepared on quartz substrates from metal acetate solutions using a procedure of dip coating, followed by calcination and reduction. High-purity single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) 1–2 nm in diameter were grown densely (~1.0×10 17 m-2) and vertically on these substrates during an alcohol catalytic chemical vapor deposition process. To cl...
