Nonparametric Estimation of Distributional Policy Effects
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper proposes a fully nonparametric procedure to evaluate the effect of a counterfactual change in the distribution of some covariates on the unconditional distribution of an outcome variable of interest. In contrast to other methods, we do not restrict attention to the effect on the mean. In particular, our method can be used to conduct inference on the change of the distribution function as a whole, its moments and quantiles, inequality measures such as the Lorenz curve or Gini coefficient, and to test for stochastic dominance. The practical applicability of our procedure is illustrated via a simulation study and an empirical example. JEL Classification: C14, C21

How Does Monetary Policy Affect Household Income Distribution?
Over the last decades the research on monetary policy has largely concentrated on the impact of monetary authorities’ decisions on inflation and the fine-tuning of the macroeconomic, so that distributional effects of monetary policy which are non-trivial has been ignored. A view that has become increasingly popular since the financial crisis 2008 is that expansionary monetary policy can exacerb...
متن کاملMann - Withney multivariate nonparametric control chart.
In many quality control applications, the necessary distributional assumptions to correctly apply the traditional parametric control charts are either not met or there is simply not enough information or evidence to verify the assumptions. It is well known that performance of many parametric control charts can be seriously degraded in situations like this. Thus, control charts that do not requi...

The Finite Sample Performance of Semiand Nonparametric Estimators for Treatment Effects and Policy Evaluation This paper investigates the finite sample performance of a comprehensive set of semiand nonparametric estimators for treatment and policy evaluation. In contrast to previous simulation studies which mostly considered semiparametric approaches relying on parametric propensity score estim...

متن کاملA Distributional Perspective on Reinforcement Learning
To the best of our knowledge, the work closest to ours are two papers (Morimura et al., 2010b;a) studying the distributional Bellman equation from the perspective of its cumulative distribution functions. The authors propose both parametric and nonparametric solutions to learn distributions for risk-sensitive reinforcement learning. They also provide some theoretical analysis for the policy eva...
