Topics in Meson Spectroscopy *

چکیده
Meson spectroscopy is an extremely broad subject, covering ππ scattering with √ s < 1 GeV to the heaviest bb̄ states with masses greater than 10 GeV [1,2]. The goal at both ends of the energy scale is to understand QCD in the nonperturbative regime. It is impossible to do justice to such a large body of work in a short talk so I restrict myself to a few selected topics. Many other aspects of meson spectroscopy are covered in other contributions where the interested reader can obtain a more balanced view of recent developments. In a very short period of time, the subject of heavy quarkonium has come to the forefront. This is the result of two recent developments; the CLEO collaboration is taking data at the Υ(3S) and Υ(2S) which will exceed the world’s existing data by a large factor and the B-factories have observed a number of charmonium states in Bdecay [3,4,5] culminating in the discovery of the η c in B → η cK by the Belle collaboration [3]. These measurements have led to the hope that some of the missing charmonium states may also be observed in B decay. Simultaneously, there has been great progress in Lattice QCD [6] so that we have progress on both the experimental and theoretical fronts. On a second front there continues to be vigorous discussion about the structure seen in ππ S-wave scattering below 1 GeV. My impression is that a consensus is emerging among workers in

Cebaf at Higher Energies Working Group Report on Hadron Spectroscopy and Production
This report summarizes topics in hadron spectroscopy and production which could be addressed at CEBAF with an energy upgrade to Eγ = 8 GeV and beyond. The topics discussed include conventional meson and baryon spectroscopy, spectroscopy of exotica (especially molecules and hybrids), CP and CPT tests using φ mesons, and new detector and accelerator options.
متن کاملMeson B fragmentation function with consideration of mass corrections
Study of B meson (meson with the bottom quark flavor) in Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is of special importance so that the detector LHCb is devoted to investigate these types of mesons. For this reason, in this paper we will study the production process of this meson in a phenomenological approach using the experimental data from electron-positron annihilation. In this regards, we shall calculat...
متن کاملIssues in Light Meson Spectroscopy: the Case for Meson Spectroscopy at Cebaf
I review some outstanding issues in meson spectroscopy. The most important qualitative issue is whether hadrons with explicit gluonic degrees of freedom exist. To answer this question requires a much better understanding of conventional qq̄ mesons. I therefore begin by examining the status of conventional meson spectroscopy and how the situation can be improved. The expected properties of gluoni...
متن کاملCp Violation in B Decays
The role of B decays in the study of CP violation is reviewed. We treat the interactions and spectroscopy of the b quark and then introduce CP violation in B meson decays, including time-dependences, decays to CP eigenstates and non-eigenstates, and flavor tagging. Additional topics include studies of strange B’s, decays to pairs of light pseudoscalar mesons, and the roles of gluonic and electr...
متن کاملLight Meson Spectroscopy
We survey the current status of light meson spectroscopy. We begin with a general introduction to meson spectroscopy and and its importance in understanding the physical states of Quantum Chromo Dynamics (QCD). Phemenological models of hadron spectroscopy are described with particular emphasis on the constituent quark model and the qualitative features it predicts for the meson spectrum. We nex...
