چکیده

If the disk of the spiral galaxies has a moderated value of the mean optical depth, the observed luminosity function should be corrected for the combined effect of the inclination and the opacity of the galactic disk. We obtain the corrected luminosity function for current models of opaque matter distribution.

Universe opacity and EBL

The observed extragalactic background light (EBL) is affected by light attenuation due to absorption of light by galactic and intergalactic dust in the Universe. Even galactic opacity of 10-20 percent and minute universe intergalactic opacity of 0.01 mag h Gpc ́1 at the local Universe have a significant impact on the EBL because obscuration of galaxies and density of intergalactic dust increase ...

The effect of variation of stellar dispersion velocities by the galactic latitude in interpreting gravitational microlensing observations

Our galaxy is a spiral galaxy and its stars are mostly in a thin disk and rotate around the galactic center. The vertical component of the dispersion velocity of stars is a function of the galactic latitude and decreases with increasing it. In the galactic Besancon model, this dependence is ignored and they just consider the dependence of dispersion velocity on the stellar age. Becanson model i...

The absorption - dominated model for the X - ray spectra of type I active galaxies : MCG – 6 - 30 - 15

MCG–6-30-15 is the archetypal example of a type I active galaxy showing broad " red-wing " emission in its X-ray spectrum at energies below the 6.4 keV Fe Kα emission line and a continuum excess above 20 keV. Miller et al. (2008) showed that these spectral features could be caused by clumpy absorbing material, but Reynolds et al. (2009) have argued that the observed Fe Kα line luminosity is inc...

Evolution of the Intergalactic Opacity: Implications for the Ionizing Background, Cosmic Star Formation, and Quasar Activity

We investigate the implications of the intergalactic opacity for the evolution of the cosmic ultraviolet luminosity density and its sources. Our main constraint follows from our measurement of the Lyman-α forest opacity at redshifts 2 ≤ z ≤ 4.2 from a sample of 86 high-resolution quasar spectra. In addition, we impose the requirements that intergalactic HI must be reionized by z = 6 and HeII by...

Iron Opacity Bump Changes the Stability and Structure of Accretion Disks in Active Galactic Nuclei

Accretion disks around supermassive black holes have regions where the Rosseland mean opacity can be larger than the electron scattering opacity due to the large number of bound–bound transitions in iron. We study the effects of this iron opacity “bump” on the thermal stability and vertical structure of radiation-pressure-dominated accretion disks, utilizing three-dimensional radiation magnetoh...
