Visualizing Hierarchical Data
نویسنده
چکیده
DEFINITION Hierarchical data is data that can be arranged in the form of a tree. Each item of data defines a node in the tree, and each node may have a collection of other nodes as child nodes. The relationship between the parent nodes and the child nodes forms a tree network. The formal definition of a tree is that the graph formed by the nodes and edges (defined between parent and child node) is both connected and contains no cycles. The following properties of a tree are of more practical use from the point of view of displaying visualizations:

Visualizing MeSH Dataset using Radial Tree Layout
Many display layout techniques were developed for the visualization of hierarchical data set like Cone tree, Treemap, Hyperbolic tree etc. Here, we present a new focus + context (fisheye) technique for visualizing and manipulating large hierarchies. We use the well knows radial tree layout method, in which focused node is placed in center of display, and all other nodes are rendered on appropri...
متن کاملPoster: Visualizing Schema Clusters for Agile Information Sharing
Very large enterprises present distinct information management challenges: it is difficult for their Chief Information Officers (CIOs) and information architects to obtain a clear overview of enterprise information assets and it is hard to quickly recognize opportunities for productive data sharing. To support users in these endeavors, we have created Affinity, a tool for visualizing clusters o...
متن کاملA User Study of Techniques for Visualizing Structure and Connectivity in Hierarchical Datasets
Many tree layouts have been created for presenting hierarchical data. However, layouts optimized for some tasks are not adequate for others. In this paper, we focus on identifying tree structures and cross-links generated by hierarchical edge bundling. Our key contribution is the introduction of descriptive features that can be used to characterize trees in terms of their structural and connect...
متن کاملInteractive Poster: ArcTrees—Relations in Hierarchies
Hierarchical data sets often include relations indicating natural or imposed dependencies between data items. Both types of relations, hierarchical and other, are often needed to understand the data. We present, ARCTREES, a novel way of visualizing hierarchical and non-hierarchical relations within one interactive visualization. An initial user study is described wherein ARCTREES compared favor...
متن کاملVisualizing statistical models: Removing the blindfold
Abstract: Visualization can help in model building, diagnosis, and in developing an understanding about how a model summarizes data. This paper proposes three strategies for visualizing statistical models: (1) display the model in the data space, (2) look at all members of a collection, and (3) explore the process of model fitting, not just the end result. Each strategy is accompanied by exampl...
متن کاملImproving Stability and Compactness in Street Layout Visualizations
We present and evaluate improvements for Street Layout, a technique that can be used for visualizing evolving hierarchical data such as file structures or software systems. Street Layouts represent data as street networks, where each street represents a branch of the hierarchy and buildings around streets represent leaves. We extended the initial idea in various ways to increase compactness and...
