چکیده

We outline how utterances in dialogs can be interpreted using a partial rst order logic. We exploit the capability of this logic to talk about the truth status of formulae to de ne a notion of coherence between utterances and explain how this coherence relation can serve for the construction of AND/OR trees that represent the segmentation of the dialog. In a BDI model we formalize basic assumptions about dialog and cooperative behaviour of participants. These assumptions provide a basis for inferring speech acts from coherence relations between utterances and attitudes of dialog participants. Speech acts prove to be useful for determining dialog segments de ned on the notion of completing expectations of dialog participants. Finally, we sketch how explicit segmentation signalled by cue phrases and performatives is covered by our dialog model.

Probabilistic Ontology Trees for Belief Tracking in Dialog Systems

We introduce a novel approach for robust belief tracking of user intention within a spoken dialog system. The space of user intentions is modeled by a probabilistic extension of the underlying domain ontology called a probabilistic ontology tree (POT). POTs embody a principled approach to leverage the dependencies among domain concepts and incorporate corroborating or conflicting dialog observa...

Confirming Changes in Beliefs and Intentions

Today’s spoken dialog systems rely on procedures such as confidence scores, machine learning approaches, etc. to understand changes in users’ beliefs and intentions. They depend on these scores to decide when to do an implicit or explicit confirmation of a value obtained to fill a required slot. These approaches work reasonably well for small domain-based systems and to make them work, several ...

Learning User Intentions Spanning Multiple Domains

People are able to interact with domain-specific applications in smart environments and get assistance with specific tasks. Current intelligent agents (IAs) tend to be limited to specific applications. In order to engage in more complex activities users have to directly manage a task that may span multiple applications. An ideal personal IA would be able to learn, over time, about these tasks t...

Understanding User’s Cross-Domain Intentions in Spoken Dialog Systems

Spoken language based intelligent assistants (IAs) have been developed for a number of domains but their functionality has mostly been confined to the scope of a given app. One reason is that it’s is difficult for IAs to infer a user’s intent without access to relevant context and unless explicitly implemented, context is not available across app boundaries. We describe context-aware multi-app ...

Adaptive Spoken Dialogue Systems

Adaptive systems cover a broad range of interactive systems which adjust to new tasks, situations, users or expressions. These systems identify and classify relevant features to develop over time, adjusting their behaviour to different users and situations. The topic of this paper is adaptation in spoken dialogue systems based on features in the dialogue. These systems automatically extract dia...
