Morphological change Stephen

چکیده

When we talk about phonological change, it is reasonably clear what we mean, but the scope of morphological change is less obvious, and depends heavily on the scope of what we take to be ‘morphology’. This is because characteristics and effects of the structure of words are somewhat more ‘metastasised’ in grammatical structure, interrelated with sound structure, syntax and meaning. For concreteness’ sake, I adopt here a view of the type characterised as Inferential and Realisational in the useful typology of theories introduced by Stump (2001), although this is not essential. On this view, the morphology of a language involves several components, including those in (1).

Stephen Hawking's Community-Bound Voice A Functional Investigation of Self-Mentions in Stephen Hawking's Scientific Prose

Thanks to the development of the concept of metadiscourse, it is now widely acknowledged that academic/scientific writing is not only concerned with communicating purely propositional meanings: what is communicated through academic/scientific communication is seen to be intertwined with the negotiation of social and interpersonal meanings. While a large number of so called metadiscoursal resour...

Identifying heterogeneity in rates of morphological evolution: discrete character change in the evolution of lungfish (Sarcopterygii; Dipnoi).

Quantifying rates of morphological evolution is important in many macroevolutionary studies, and critical when assessing possible adaptive radiations and episodes of punctuated equilibrium in the fossil record. However, studies of morphological rates of change have lagged behind those on taxonomic diversification, and most authors have focused on continuous characters and quantifying patterns o...

Analyzing the hydro-morphological indicators of the Balharoud river with the aim of determining the trend and causes of riverbed change

The Rivers and the Canals are a completely dynamic system and their morphological patterns has been changed continuously over the time, which sometimes lead to erosion and damage to coastal facilities and border displacement. Therefore, its hydrologic behavior should always be considered. Iran has several border rivers with its neighbors that its necessary be studied of wise “the bed change app...

Changes in Cis-regulatory Elements during Morphological Evolution

How have animals evolved new body designs (morphological evolution)? This requires explanations both for simple morphological changes, such as differences in pigmentation and hair patterns between different Drosophila populations and species, and also for more complex changes, such as differences in the forelimbs of mice and bats, and the necks of amphibians and reptiles. The genetic changes an...

Rates of speciation and morphological evolution are correlated across the largest vertebrate radiation.

Several evolutionary theories predict that rates of morphological change should be positively associated with the rate at which new species arise. For example, the theory of punctuated equilibrium proposes that phenotypic change typically occurs in rapid bursts associated with speciation events. However, recent phylogenetic studies have found little evidence linking these processes in nature. H...
