چکیده
The caption for Fig. 5 in the published article is incorrect. The caption for Fig. 5 should read as follows: Reaction pathways associated with potential initiation steps for combustion of acrolein on O/Au(111) and OH/Au(111) surfaces. Activation barriers and atomic structures were determined via DFT calculations. The Royal Society of Chemistry apologises for these errors and any consequent inconvenience to authors and readers.

Control of selectivity in allylic alcohol oxidation on gold surfaces: the role of oxygen adatoms and hydroxyl species.
Gold catalysts display high activity and good selectivity for partial oxidation of a number of alcohol species. In this work, we discuss the effects of oxygen adatoms and surface hydroxyls on the selectivity for oxidation of allylic alcohols (allyl alcohol and crotyl alcohol) on gold surfaces. Utilizing temperature programmed desorption (TPD), reactive molecular beam scattering (RMBS), and dens...
متن کاملOxygen and hydroxyl species induce multiple reaction pathways for the partial oxidation of allyl alcohol on gold.
Partial oxidation of alcohols is a topic of great interest in the field of gold catalysis. In this work, we provide evidence that the partial oxidation of allyl alcohol to its corresponding aldehyde, acrolein, over oxygen-precovered gold surfaces occurs via multiple reaction pathways. Utilizing temperature-programmed desorption (TPD) with isotopically labeled water and oxygen species, reactive ...
متن کاملRole of defects in propene adsorption and reaction on a partially O-covered Au(111) surface
We investigate the role of defects—adatoms, vacancies, and steps—in the bonding and reaction of propene on Au(111) containing atomic oxygen, using density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The adsorption of propene is stronger on a surface containing defects compared to the flat, bulk-terminated surface, with the largest gain in binding (B0.7 eV) on a surface with a 1/9 monolayer (ML) of Au...
متن کاملThe role of carburization temperature on the molybdenum carbide surface and their catalytic activity
The surfaces of molybdenum carbide were varied by changing the carburization temperature between 823 and 1123 K. The surfaces of the catalytic material were investigated using in-situ temperature program carburization followed by temperature program reduction and oxidation. In-situ temperature program oxidation (TPO) showed the surfaces of the catalysts contain a similar amoun...
متن کاملActivation Strategies for Enhancement the Catalytic Activity of Gold Nanocatalysts
Recent advances in nanoscience have led to the development of numerous methodologiesfor controlled synthesis of mono dispersed nanoparticles and/or nanoclusters via surface stabilization by organic capping ligands. The application of these nanoparticles in catalysis and other fields often requires the removal of organic ligands. It is known that the removal of organic capping agents or or...
