Ulnar nerve entrapment at the wrist.
نویسنده
چکیده
MEDIAN nerve compression at the wrist is common and its treatment by decompression is usually successful. Ulnar nerve entrapment, on the other hand, is uncommon. The ulnar nerve as it enters the hand passes through and divides in the canal of Guyon, into its deep (motor) and superficial (sensory) branch. This ulnarcarpal tunnel is bounded proximally and medially by the pisiform, distally and laterally by the hook of hamate, anteriorly by the volar carpal ligament and posteriorly by a thick carpal ligament overlying the pisotriquetrial articulation. Proximal to the wrist the ulnar nerve gives off its dorsal cutaneous branch. Two cases of ulnar nerve entrapment at the wrist are described.

Prevalence of Concurrent Disorders of Ulnar Nerve Entrapment at the Elbow and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Ahvaz Imam Khomeini Hospital During 2009 to 2012
Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is the most well-known and frequent form of median nerve entrapment, and accounts for 90% of all entrapment neuropathies. Entrapment neuropathies of the ulnar nerve are relatively common with ulnar neuropathy at the elbow more prevalent than ulnar neuropathy at the wrist. The diagnosis of ulnar neuropathy at the elbow is usually confirmed in a relatively straight – ...

متن کاملUlnar nerve entrapment in Guyon's canal due to recurrent carpal tunnel syndrome: case report.
Guyon's canal syndrome is a compression neuropathy of the ulnar nerve entrapment at the wrist. Compression of the ulnar nerve at the wrist by a ganglion, lipomas, diseases of the ulnar artery, fractures of the hamate and trauma are common etiologcal factors. Unlike Guyon's canal syndrome, carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is the most common nerve entrapment of the upper extremity. Although, open (OC...
متن کاملIs ulnar nerve entrapment at wrist frequent among patients with carpal tunnel syndrome occupationally exposed to monotype wrist movements?
OBJECTIVES Association between carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) and ulnar nerve entrapment at wrist remains controversial. The aim of the study has been to investigate the prevalence of Guyon's canal syndrome amongst patients diagnosed with the CTS, occupationally exposed to repetitive wrist movements. MATERIAL AND METHODS The retrospective analysis of 310 patients (268 females, 42 males) represe...
متن کاملSurgical management of Guyon's canal syndrome, an ulnar nerve entrapment at the wrist: report of two cases.
Guyon's canal syndrome, an ulnar nerve entrapment at the wrist, is a well-recognized entity. The most common causes that involve the ulnar nerve at the wrist are compression from a ganglion, occupational traumatic neuritis, a musculotendinous arch and disease of the ulnar artery. We describe two cases of Guyon's canal syndrome and discuss the anatomy, aetiology, clinical features, anatomical cl...
