چکیده
Mani Earthquake, occurred on Nov. 8, 1997 in Tibet, China, is the strongest event in China since 90’s in 20 century. Investigation and research of its principle and geometry, dynamics related to surface rupture zone is very significant to analyze the development and evolution of China’s earthquake in the future. In this study, we investigate the distribution of surface deformation and extract displacement information of the earthquake rupture zone using differential SAR (ERS1/2 SAR) interferometry. The data set related to our study area are ERS1/2 SLC SAR images (April 15, April 16, 1996 ERS-1 and Dec. 2, 1997 ERS-2) provided by European Space Agency. We analyzed factors related to the surface deformation detecting interferogram along the Margaichace-Ruolacuo fault under the special regional environmental conditions. From the changing interferogram, we concluded that the zone around Margaichace-Ruolacuo fault is the most severely deformed and the most possibly rupturing area; epicenter is located in this zone. Also we concluded from analyzing the fringe patterns that left-lateral shear movement is the whole deforming mechanism, furthermore, the offsets are also quantitatively estimated. We inferred that the horizontal offset displacement for the southern side at least reaches 2.8m and 1.75m at least for the northern side of the fault. All these results agree well with the slip measured in the field, with the displacement measured by surveying, and with the results of an elastic dislocation model. * Corresponding author.

Estimation of Earthquake Damage Through Radar Interferometry (Case study: Bam 2003 Earthquake)
The estimate of the damage caused by the earthquake and other natural disasters in the first days after the occurrence of these events can provide a quick damages assessment and help to manage the crisis. Several methods are available to investigate the extent of earthquake’s damage. Optical remote sensing, photogrammetric methods (UAVs and LIDARs), radar interferometry (InSAR) and field observ...

During tandem period of ERS-1/2 (April June 1996), field experiments were conducted in Bhavnagar test site with Corner Reflectors (CRs) to study the sensitivity of differential SAR interferometry to estimate the movements of CRs. Initially, three images acquired on April 4, 5 and May 9, 1996 were processed to generate interferograms. Using single interferogram formed with April 4 and May 9, dur...
متن کاملAnalysis of Large-scale Displacement Using Radar Interferometry Technology in Open-pit Mines (Case Study: Gol Gohar Sirjan Mine)
Abstract Mines with their displacements cause damage to infrastructure and land, so it is important to control the displacement caused by mines. Also, the amount of minerals extracted from mines has always been of interest to managers. On the other hand, radar interferometry, given the production of repetitive and full images and the acceptable accuracy of this method, in examining be sugge...
متن کاملBam earthquake: Surface deformation mea- surement using radar interferometry
On the 26th December 2003 an earthquake with MW=6.5 shook a large area of the Kerman Province in Iran. The epicenter of the devastating earthquake was located near the city of Bam. This paper described the application of differential synthetic aperture radar interferometry (D-INSAR) and ENVISAT ASAR data to map the coseismic surface deformation caused by the Bam earthquake including the interfe...
متن کاملApplication of SAR Interferometry for Himalayan Glaciers
With the help of ERS 1 and 2 tandem data, we have produced DEM and glacier movement of two major Himalayan glaciers in India. The glaciers showed good correlation but the surrounding areas had more decorrelation. Contours generated with ERS 1 and 2 SAR tandem data are comparable with topographic maps. We have used SRTM DEM to study the glacier movement involving two-pass differential method. Th...
