Complexity and endogeneity in economic modeling
نویسنده
چکیده
The concepts of complexity, endogeneity and circular causation (Myrdal’s (1957) term was circular causation) are shown to be interrelated ones in configuring economic modeling in the framework of systemic embedding and its empirical application. The ensuing framework of economic modeling with complexity provides a controllable and predictable overarching worldview. Anomie in the economic universe and its embedded world-system is analytically rejected. This consequence is due to the epistemic nature of modeling that combines complexity, endogeneity, and circular causation for attaining predictability and controllability even in the face of complex systemic perturbations. The epistemology of unity of knowledge contrasted with rationalism is treated as the foundational worldview. An illustrative empirical work is given to convey the conceptual model and its applied viability.

Quality of Financial Reporting Choice: Determinants and Economic Consequences
I investigate the determinants and economic consequences associated with firms’ financial reporting choices. Recognizing the endogeneity associated with these choices, I find evidence of a positive association between investors’ demands for firm-specific information and financial reporting quality. I also find that higher proprietary costs are associated with a lower quality of financial inform...
متن کاملIdentification-robust inference for endogeneity parameters in linear structural models
We provide a generalization of the Anderson-Rubin (AR) procedure for inference on parameters which represent the dependence between possibly endogenous explanatory variables and disturbances in a linear structural equation (endogeneity parameters). We focus on second-order dependence and stress the distinction between regression and covariance endogeneity parameters. Such parameters have intrin...
متن کاملThe effect of knowledge based economic indicators on the countries' economic complexity
Countries’ economic growth and development are significantly dependent on their productive capacity. In this research, we aimed to investigate which components of a knowledge-based economy has a more meaningful role in the production capacity. In order to measure production capacity, we used one of the most up-to-date indexes, the economic complexity index. The research used data panel consist...
متن کاملThe Impact of the Economic Complexity Index on Competitiveness: A Study of Selected Emerging Countries
The main purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between economic complexity and competitiveness using panel data in a sample of 39 emerging countries from 2002 to 2018. The results of the causality test of Dmitresco and Horlin Granger (2012) show a two-way cause between economic complexity and competitiveness. This indicates that the higher complexity of the economy helps coun...
متن کاملTesting Endogeneity in a Regression Model: An Application of Instrumental Variable Estimation
A goal of economic research is to determine the causal relationship among economic variables. This paper introduces the Hausman speci cation test of endogeneity, for testing the independence between the stochastic regressor and the disturbances. We describe alternative approaches to estimating simultaneous-equation systems and we present an empirical example of economic growth and health that n...
