TWO-LEVEL DOMAIN DECOMPOSITION PRECONDITIONING FOR THE p-VERSION FINITE ELEMENT METHOD IN THREE DIMENSIONS

چکیده

This paper presents a exible approach to domain decomposition preconditioning for problems expressed in terms of local stiiness matrices of subdomains. Evaluation of the preconditioner requires fully parallelizable local computations and the solution of a global auxiliary problem with few variables per subdomain. Convergence factors can be bounded using properties of the local stiiness matrices only. The method is applied to the p-version nite element method for three-dimensional elasticity. We treat each element as a subdomain and compute explicit convergence bounds.

Updating finite element model using frequency domain decomposition method and bees algorithm

The following study deals with the updating the finite element model of structures using the operational modal analysis. The updating process uses an evolutionary optimization algorithm, namely bees algorithm which applies instinctive behavior of honeybees for finding food sources. To determine the uncertain updated parameters such as geometry and material properties of the structure, local and...

Parallel Domain Decomposition Solver for Adaptive Hp Finite Element Methods

In this paper, the development and implementation of highly parallelizable domain decomposition solvers for adaptive hp finite element methods is discussed. Two-level orthogonalization is used to obtain a reduced system which is preconditioned by a coarse grid operator. The condition number of the preconditioned system, for Poisson problems in two space dimensions, is proved to be bounded by C(...

Some Schwarz Algorithms for the P-version Finite Element Method

Domain decomposition methods based on the Schwarz framework were originally proposed for the h-version nite element method for elliptic problems. In this paper, we consider instead the p-version, in which increased accuracy is achieved by increasing the degree of the elements while the mesh is xed. We consider linear, scalar, self adjoint, second order elliptic problems and quadrilateral elemen...

Output-only Modal Analysis of a Beam Via Frequency Domain Decomposition Method Using Noisy Data

The output data from a structure is the building block for output-only modal analysis. The structure response in the output data, however, is usually contaminated with noise. Naturally, the success of output-only methods in determining the modal parameters of a structure depends on noise level. In this paper, the possibility and accuracy of identifying the modal parameters of a simply supported...

On Domain Decomposition Preconditioning in the Hierarchical P-version of the Nite Element Method

The p-version nite element method for linear, second order elliptic equations in an arbitrary, suuciently smooth domain is studied in the framework of the Domain Decomposition (DD) method. Two types of square reference elements are used with the products of the integrated Legendre polynomials for coordinate functions. Estimates for the condition numbers are given, preconditioning of the problem...
