چکیده

Let G = (N, E) be a supply graph, with the node set N and edge set E, and (T, S) be a demand graph, with T ⊆ N , S ∩ E = ∅. Observe paths whose end-vertices form pairs in S (called S-paths). The following path packing problem for graphs is fundamental: what is the maximal number of S-paths in G? In this paper this problem is studied under two assumptions: (a) the node degrees in N \ T are even, and (b) any three distinct pairwise intersecting maximal stable sets A, B, C of (T, S) satisfy A∩B = B ∩C = A∩C (this condition was defined by A. Karzanov in 1989, see [K 1989]). For any demand graph violating (b) the problem is known to be NP-hard even under (a), and only a few cases satisfying (a) and (b) have been solved. In each of the solved cases, a solution and an optimal dual object were defined by a certain auxiliary “weak” multiflow optimization problem whose solutions supply constructive elements for S-paths and concatenate them into an S-path packing by a kind of matching. In this paper the above approach is extended to all demand graphs satisfying (a) and (b), by proving existence of a common solution of the S-path packing and its weak counterpart. The weak problem is very interesting for its own sake, and has connections with such topics as Mader’s edge-disjoint path packing theorem and b-factors in graphs.

A new metaheuristic genetic-based placement algorithm for 2D strip packing

Given a container of fixed width, infinite height and a set of rectangular block, the 2D-strip packing problem consists of orthogonally placing all the rectangles such that the height is minimized. The position is subject to confinement of no overlapping of blocks. The problem is a complex NP-hard combinatorial optimization, thus a heuristic based on genetic algorithm is proposed to solve it. I...

Flows with Unit Path Capacities and Related Packing and Covering Problems

Since the seminal work of Ford and Fulkerson in the 1950s, network flow theory is one of the most important and most active areas of research in combinatorial optimization. Coming from the classical maximum flow problem, we introduce and study an apparently basic but new flow problem that features a couple of interesting peculiarities. We derive several results on the complexity and approximabi...

A Primal-Dual Algorithm for Weighted Abstract Cut Packing

Hoffman and Schwartz [13] developed the Lattice Polyhedron model and proved that it is totally dual integral (TDI), and so has integral optimal solutions. The model generalizes many important combinatorial optimization problems such as polymatroid intersection, cut covering polyhedra, min cost aborescences, etc., but has lacked a combinatorial algorithm. The problem can be seen as the blocking ...

Adjacency on Combinatorial Polyhedra

This paper shows some useful properties of the adjacency structures of a class of combinatorial polyhedra including the equality constrained 0-1 polytopes. The class of polyhedra considered here includes 0-1 polytopes related to some combinatorial optimization problems; e.g., set partitioning polytopes, set packing polytopes, perfect matching polytopes, vertex packing polytopes and all the face...

Abstract: Packing rectangular shapes into a rectangular space is one of the most important discussions on Cutting & Packing problems (C;P) such as: cutting problem, bin-packing problem and distributor's pallet loading problem, etc. Assume a set of rectangular pieces with specific lengths, widths and utility values. Also assume a rectangular packing space with specific width and length. The obj...
