Analysis of Spaceborne Tandem Configurations for Complementing COSMO with SAR Interferometry
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper analyses the possibility of using a fifth passive satellite for endowing the Italian COSMO-SkyMed constellation with crossand along-track SAR interferometric capabilities, by using simultaneously flying and operating antennas. Fundamentals of developed models are described and potential space configurations are investigated, by considering both formations operating on the same orbital plane and on separated planes. The study is mainly aimed at describing achievable baselines and their time histories along the selected orbits. The effects of tuning orbital parameters, such as eccentricity or ascending node phasing, are pointed out, and simulation results show the most favorable tandem configurations in terms of achieved baseline components, percentage of the orbit adequate for interferometry, and covered latitude intervals.

SAR interferometry analyses and experiments with COSMO-SkyMed
The new X-band SAR missions provide SAR images characterized by a much higher resolution, opening new possibilities for SAR interferometry. Thanks to the high resolution it is expected to find a larger number of coherent points or persistent scatterers per unit area, resulting in more detailed and accurate measurements by means of SAR differential interferometry techniques. Among the other char...
متن کاملSrtm and Beyond: Current Situation and New Developments in Spaceborne Insar
SAR interferometry (InSAR) has become one of the most powerful tools in radar remote sensing. Generation of digital elevation models, measurement of glacier flows and mapping of earthquakes, volcanoes and subsidence are the most prominent applications of InSAR. For most of these applications continuous acquisition of SAR data from space over many years, like with the ERS-1/2 or Radarsat, is ind...
متن کاملOn forest height retrieval from spaceborne X-band interferometric SAR images under variable seasonal conditions
This paper discusses the possibility to use spaceborne X-band radar interferometry for forest height mapping. In our previous works was shown that airborne X-band SAR interferometry combined with accurate ground elevation model can provide good estimates of boreal forest height. In order to apply this technique to spaceborne SAR images, temporal variability of the scattering and lower signal to...
متن کاملEvaluation of Insar Dem from High-resolution Spaceborne Sar Data
In recent years a new generation of high-resolution SAR satellites became operational like the Canadian Radarsat-2, the Italian Cosmo/Skymed, and the German TerraSAR-X systems. The spatial resolution of such devices achieves the meter domain or even below. Key products derived from remote sensing imagery are Digital Elevation Models (DEM). Based on SAR data various techniques can be applied for...
متن کاملSpaceborne bi- and multistatic SAR: potential and challenges
Biand multistatic synthetic aperture radar (SAR) operates with distinct transmit and receive antennas that are mounted on separate platforms. Such a spatial separation has several operational advantages, which will increase the capability, reliability and flexibility of future SAR missions. Various spaceborne biand multistatic SAR configurations are introduced, and their potential for different...
