Integrating Ontologies with CAR Mappings
نویسندگان
چکیده
CAR is a declarative language which can be used to map between different schemas in general and which allows the integration of ontologies in special. CAR provides mapping operators whose expressivity exceeds the possibilities of simple equivalence mappings by far. Due to the declarative nature of this approach, CAR which we implemented in a graphical mapping framework, offers a very user-friendly way to overcome schematic heterogenities. Furthermore, the mappings can be executed on Colored Petri Nets, and therefore they can be easily simulated and debugged in a framework for representing schemas and mapping models as Transformation Nets which can be applied to transform concrete instances of schemas expressed as tokens.

What Four Million Mappings Can Tell You about Two Hundred Ontologies
The field of biomedicine has embraced the Semantic Web probably more than any other field. As a result, there is a large number of biomedical ontologies covering overlapping areas of the field. We have developed BioPortal— an open community-based repository of biomedical ontologies. We analyzed ontologies and terminologies in BioPortal and the Unified Medical Language System (UMLS), creating mo...
متن کاملOn using database techniques for generating ontology mappings
In the Semantic Web, there are a variety of ontologies, which motivates the need for integrating them. Integration tasks rely on the use of relationships amongst the integrated ontologies, known as mappings. The literature reports on a number of techniques to automatically generate such mappings, unfortunately, the results are not suitable to perform integration tasks since they can produce inc...
متن کاملSemMatcher: A Tool for Matching Ontology-based Schemas
In Peer Data Management Systems (PDMS), each peer is an autonomous source that makes available a local schema. Information exchange occurs through the establishment of schema mappings between local schemas. To help matters, ontologies have been considered as uniform representation of local schemas (i.e., peer ontologies). Consequently, ontology matching techniques have been used to determine sc...
متن کاملIdentifying and Eliminating Inconsistencies in Mappings across Hierarchical Ontologies
Recent years have seen a rapid proliferation of information sources e.g., on the World-wide Web, in virtually every area of human endeavor. Such autonomous information sources are based on different ontologies, i.e., conceptualizations of the entities, properties, and relationships in the respective domains of discourse. However, practical applications (e.g., building predictive models from dis...
متن کاملModel-theoretic Approaches to Semantic Integration
Many tasks require correct and meaningful communication and integration among intelligent agents and information resources. A major barrier to such interoperability is semantic heterogeneity: different applications, databases, and agents may ascribe disparate meanings to the same terms or use distinct terms to convey the same meaning. The development of ontologies has been proposed as a key tec...
