Compatibility of Aircraft and Shipborne Instruments Used in Air-sea Interaction Research
نویسنده
چکیده
On June 16, 1966, a n experiment was performed off the east coast of Florida tha t involved two research aircraft, one from the Naval Oceanographic Office and one from ESSA's Research Flight Facility, and the USCGSS Peirce, aboard which were two scientists from ESSA's Sea Air Interaction Laboratory, and the Weather Bureau Airport Station at Jacksonville, Fla. The purpose of this investigation was t o determine the comparability of data for air-sea interaction research as determined by aircraft temperature, humidity, pressure, and wind sensors; airborne I R radiometers; a tethered boundary layer instrument package, radiosondes, rawinsondes, and dropsondes. Results showed generally good agreement (within listed instrumental accuracies) between comparisons of aircraft and radiosonde temperature and humidity observations, fair agreement of wind observations, and very poor comparisons between dropsondes and radiosondes. The sea surface temperature readings obtained by the airborne radiation thermometer aboard the Navy aircraft were well within k0.4' C. operational accuracy of the instrument when compared with bucket temperature measurements taken aboard the Peirce. Whether the accuracies of these presently available instruments are good enough for mesoscale and macroscale ocenn-atmosphere interaction investigations now being planned will have t o await studies of the environments in which these experiments will take place.

Gravity acceleration at the sea surface derived from satellite altimetry data using harmonic splines
Gravity acceleration data have grand pursuit for marine applications. Due to environmental effects, marine gravity observations always hold a high noise level. In this paper, we propose an approach to produce marine gravity data using satellite altimetry, high-resolution geopotential models and harmonic splines. On the one hand, harmonic spline functions have great capability for local gravity ...
متن کامل13: Radar Remote Sensing of Ice and Sea State and Air-Sea Interaction in the Marginal Ice Zone
The goals of this project are to utilize shipborne remote sensing to understand the scattering and attenuation process of ocean waves interacting with ice. A dedicated nautical X-band radar on a vessel would be used to follow the propagation of waves into the marginal ice zone (MIZ) and observe the attenuation and scattering of wave modes from the floating ice as well as estimate surface wind a...

In this paper, the methodology of aircraft air distribution system has been analyzed theoretically and experimentally. To achieve that, ducting pressure loss and air flow throw gaspers calculations has been done for cabin ducts in according to exact location of individual air distribution system in the cabin. The length of gasper air flow was compared with the distance between gasper outlet and...
متن کاملIn-Trim Flight Investigations of a Conceptual Fluidic Thrust-Vectored Unmanned Tail-Sitter Aircraft
The feasibility of using a stand alone Fluidic Thrust-Vectoring (FTV) system for the purpose of longitudinal trim of an unmanned aerial vehicle is the focus of the research presented in this paper. Since the fluidic thrust vectoring requires high pressure secondary air to deflect the engine exhaust gases, this research also provides an analytical toolset for preliminary sizing of a suitable sec...
متن کاملBEM-FDM modeling of water free surface interaction with trapped air in OWC chamber for calculating generated power
Free surface modeling plays an important role in some ocean structures design, especially in Oscillating Water Column (OWC) devices. Boundary element method (BEM) is a suitable method for free surface modeling due to its simplicity, quick solving, and low data storage requirement. In this paper, BEM was used for free surface modeling in OWC chamber and out of it. Linear kinematic and dynamic bo...
