چکیده

INTRODUCTION AND MOTIVATION: A common assumption in literature is that fast / turbo spin echo sequences (FSE/TSE) do not demonstrate any distinct diffusion weighting, since the permanent refocusing of magnetization does not lead to noticeable diffusion effects. This statement, however, does actually refer to standard TSE imaging with 180° refocusing pulses. The use of low refocusing flip angles, as used for specific absorption ratio (SAR) mitigation, introduces considerable fractions of dephased transversal and longitudinal magnetization components. These experience higher diffusion sensitivity due to b~k, with k being a measure for dephasing (e.g. ‘k-space’). Furthermore, modern types of 3D-TSE sequences such as SPACE or CUBE [1] use very long RF pulse trains with variable flip angles. This work investigates therefore the effective diffusion sensitivity of such contemporary TSE sequences by using a recently published extended phase graph (EPG) approach [2-4].

Three-dimensional turbo spin-echo sequence versus conventional two-dimensional turbo spin-echo sequences in the evaluation of lumbar intervertebral discs

Objective. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of a three-dimensional (3D) turbo spin-echo (TSE) sequence for determining lumbar disc protrusions, and to compare the findings with those of conventional two-dimensional (2D) TSE sequences and reveal the interobserver and intermethod agreements of both sequences. Methods. A total of 127 discs from 84 patients were evaluated by three...

Accuracy of postcontrast 3D turbo spin-echo MR sequence for the detection of enhanced inflammatory lesions in patients with multiple sclerosis.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Therapeutic strategies for patients with MS partly rely on contrast-enhanced MR imaging. Our aim was to assess the diagnostic performance of 3D turbo spin-echo MR imaging with variable refocusing flip angles at 3T for the detection of enhanced inflammatory lesions in patients with multiple sclerosis. MATERIALS AND METHODS Fifty-six patients with MS were prospectively in...

Rapid 3D imaging of the airway by MRI in patients with congenital heart disease: comparison of delayed volume interpolated breath hold examination (VIBE) technique to the turbo spin echo (TSE)

Background When imaging the airway by MRI, the traditional technique turbo spin echo (TSE) results in high quality 2D images of the airway. However, planning and acquisition times are often lengthy. An alternative technique for airway image acquisition, delayed volume interpolated breath hold examination or VIBE, is a 3D gradient echo technique that produces high spatial resolution imaging of t...
