In this chapter Iparraguirre D’Elia outlines the productivity performance of Northern Ireland between 995 and 00 . The results indicate that while Northern Ireland returned the highest rate of economic growth of all UK regions between 989 and 00 , its productivity performance has been poor, with most of the economic growth over this period being attributable to increasing employment levels. Northern Ireland’s economy is dominated by high rates of employment in the public administration, health and education sectors, sectors that typically have less potential for future productivity growth.
