Accelerated Shocks: Analytical Results

چکیده
In previous work we reported investigations on the acceleration of shock waves by energy deposition and a heavy-ion scenario for an experimental investigation of this effect. This has recently been complemented by additional analytic results. A heavy ion beam gives the unique opportunity to create a scenario in which a running shock wave experiences almost homogeneous energy deposition in both the shocked and unshocked regions. To study the essential properties of such a situation, we examine a one-dimensional case, homogeneous and constant energy deposition given by a constant λ (specific deposited power ) and an ideal-gas equation of state. The equations of motion then take the form ( ) 0 t x v ρ ρ ∂ + ∂ = (1)

First order Fermi acceleration at multiple oblique shocks
Numerical results for particle acceleration at multiple oblique shocks are presented. We calculate the steady state spectral slope of test particles accelerated by the first order Fermi process. The results are compared to analytical treatments, for parameters, where the diffusion approximation does apply. Effects of injection and finite shock extend are included phenomenologically. We find the...
متن کاملA Novel Approach to Non linear Shock Acceleration
First order Fermi acceleration at astrophysical shocks is often invoked as a mechanism for the generation of non-thermal particles. This mechanism is especially simple in the approximation that the accelerated particles behave like test particles, not affecting the shocked fluid. Many complications enter the calculations when the accelerated particles have a backreaction on the fluid, in which ...
متن کاملNonthermal radiation from clusters of galaxies: the role of merger shocks in particle acceleration
Nonthermal radiation is observed from clusters of galaxies in the radio, hard X-rays, and possibly in the soft X-ray/UV bands. While it is known that radiative processes related to nonthermal electrons are responsible for this radiation, the sites and nature of particle acceleration are not known. We investigate here the acceleration of protons and electrons in the shocks originated during merg...
متن کاملA semi-analytical approach to non-linear shock acceleration
Shocks in astrophysical fluids can generate suprathermal particles by first order (or diffusive) Fermi acceleration. In the test particle regime there is a simple relation between the spectrum of the accelerated particles and the jump conditions at the shock. This simple picture becomes complicated when the pressure of the accelerated particles becomes comparable with the pressure of the shocke...

In a system, prediction of remaining useful lifetime (RUL) of servicing before reaching to a specified breakdown threshold is a very important practical issue, and research in this field is still regarded as an appreciated research gap. Operational environment of an equipment is not constant and changes regarding to stresses and shocks. These random environmental factors accelerate system deter...
متن کاملNon linear particle acceleration at non-relativistic shock waves in the presence of self-generated turbulence
Particle acceleration at astrophysical shocks may be very efficient if magnetic scattering is self-generated by the same particles. This nonlinear process adds to the nonlinear modification of the shock due to the dynamical reaction of the accelerated particles on the shock. Building on a previous general solution of the problem of particle acceleration with arbitrary diffusion coefficients (Am...
