چکیده

Two of the antigenic characters of erythrocytes, that in either identical or related forms differentiate four species of Streptopelia (chinensis, humilis, orientalis, and senegalensis) from a fifth (S. risoria) by interaction of the causative genes, are involved in the appearance in backcross hybrids of additional antigenic specificities to those of the parental species. The cells of backcross hybrids, resulting from matings of S. chinensis x S. risoria and backcrossing to S. risoria, in which the two independently inherited antigenic characters (ch-4 and ch-8 peculiar to S. chinensis) are combined as homozygotes, exhibit an antigenic specificity not present in backcross birds carrying separately these two characters. This result indicates an interaction within S. chinensis of the genes for these two antigenic characters. An antigen (C(g)) by which Columba guinea differs from C. livia has behaved as a unit in over 400 backcross offspring. It is antigenically related to both ch-4 and ch-8 of S. chinensis. It is also related to, but not identical with, this interaction antigen of S. chinensis. Further, the C(g) character is also related to an interaction product that appears in all backcross offspring carrying the group-4 antigen in a S. risoria genome. Genes related to those that in modern species or in species hybrids interact to effect new antigenic specificities presumably possessed the same abilities in ancestral forms of Columbidae.

The evolution of two gene systems and of associated hybrid substances in columbidae.

F E R T I L E hybrids have been obtained from mating to Streptopelia risoria representatives of each of four other species of the genus-chinensis, humilis (or tranquebarica) , orientalis and senegalensis. Following backcrosses of the species hybrids and selected backcross hybrids to risoria, antigenic characters of the erythrocytes peculiar to each of these four species, in contrast to risoria,...

On Immunogenetic Relationships between the Antigenic Characters Specific to Two Species of Columbidae.

REVIOUS papers from this laboratory have described the isolation and P identification in unit-form of the antigenic characters of the red blood cells whereby Pearlneck (Sneptopelia chinensis) and Senegal (St. senegalensis), respectively, differ from Ringdove (Sl. risovia) (IRWIN 1939; IRWIN and CUMLEY 1947). The cellular antigens specific to the respective species are gene determined, but wheth...

Hydrogen evolution activity of NiMo-MoO2 produced by mechanical milling

In this study, mechanical alloying was done by a high-energy planetary ball milling technique. A mixture of NiO and MoO3 and graphite powders were used as initial materials. After milling of powder mixture with 40 wt.% additional graphite, a temperature of 400, 550 and 1000 °C for 1 h was considered for the heat treatment of powder mixture. Also, powder mixtures containing 60, 80 and 100 wt.% a...

Comparative Phylogenetic Perspectives on the Evolutionary Relationships in the Brine Shrimp Artemia Leach, 1819 (Crustacea: Anostraca) Based on Secondary Structure of ITS1 Gene

This is the first study on phylogenetic relationships in the genus Artemia Leach, 1819 using the pattern and sequence of secondary structures of internal transcribed spacer 1 (ITS1). Significant intraspecific variation in the secondary structure of ITS1 rRNA was found in Artemia tibetiana. In the phylogenetic tree based on joined primary and secondary structure sequences, Artemia urmiana and pa...

Interaction of nonallelic genes on cellular antigens in species hybrids of columbidae, iii. Further identification of interacting genes.

Evidence was presented in a previous paper' that a hybrid substance, encountered after an antigenic character (ch4) of Streptopelia chinensis was transferred to S. risoria, resulted from the interaction of nonallelic genes. Specifically, the cha4 cellular antigen from chinensis showed no hybrid substance when present in backcross individuals that were homozygous for an independently inherited c...
