Phase transition in annihilation-limited processes

چکیده
A system of particles is studied in which the stochastic processes are one-particle type-change (or one-particle diffusion) and multi-particle annihilation. It is shown that, if the annihilation rate tends to zero but the initial values of the average number of the particles tends to infinity, so that the annihilation rate times a certain power of the initial values of the average number of the particles remain constant (the double scaling) then if the initial state of the system is a multi-Poisson distribution, the system always remains in a state of multi-Poisson distribution, but with evolving parameters. The large time behavior of the system is also investigated. The system exhibits a dynamical phase transition. It is seen that for a k-particle annihilation, if k is larger than a critical value kc, which is determined by the type-change rates, then annihilation does not enter the relaxation exponent of the system; while for k < kc, it is the annihilation (in fact k itself) which determines the relaxation exponent. ‘Real’ vs ‘Imaginary’ Noise in Diffusion-Limited Reactions
Reaction-diffusion systems which include processes of the form A+A → A or A+A → ∅ are characterised by the appearance of ‘imaginary’ multiplicative noise terms in an effective Langevin-type description. However, if ‘real’ as well as ‘imaginary’ noise is present, then competition between the two could potentially lead to novel behaviour. We thus investigate the asymptotic properties of the follo...
متن کاملScale Invariance and Dynamic Phase Transitions in Diffusion-Limited Reactions
Many systems that can be described in terms of diffusion-limited ‘chemical’ reactions display non-equilibrium continuous transitions separating active from inactive, absorbing states, where stochastic fluctuations cease entirely. Their critical properties can be analyzed via a path-integral representation of the corresponding classical master equation, and the dynamical renormalization group. A...
متن کاملColliding Waves in a Model Excitable Medium: Preservation, Annihilation, and Bifurcation
We analyze the transition from annihilation to preservation of colliding waves. The analysis exploits the similarity between the local and global phase portraits of the system. The transition is shown to be the infinite-dimensional analog of the creation and annihilation of limit cycles in the plane via a homoclinic Andronov bifurcation, and has parallels to the nucleation theory of first-order...
متن کاملDynamics of Phase Transitions and Hysteresis in a Viscoelastic Ericksen’s Bar on an Elastic Foundation
This work is a follow-up on the study [32] of interface dynamics and hysteresis in materials undergoing solid-solid phase transitions. We consider the dynamics of a viscoelastic bar with a nonmonotone stress-strain relation and viscous stress linearly proportional to the strain rate. The bar is placed on an elastic foundation with stiffness β mimicking the interaction of phases in higher dimens...
متن کاملDiscontinuous non-equilibrium phase transition in a threshold Schloegl model for autocatalysis: Generic two-phase coexistence and metastability.
Threshold versions of Schloegl's model on a lattice, which involve autocatalytic creation and spontaneous annihilation of particles, can provide a simple prototype for discontinuous non-equilibrium phase transitions. These models are equivalent to so-called threshold contact processes. A discontinuous transition between populated and vacuum states can occur selecting a threshold of N ≥ 2 for th...
