18F-fluorodeoxyglucose-Avid mammary mass in a patient with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus and Hodgkin's lymphoma: relapse or pitfall?

چکیده
• Vol 8 • December 2006 838 Diabetic mastopathy is an uncommon benign histopathologic condition manifested by a palpable mass. It typically occurs in premenopausal women with longstanding early-onset insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus and microvascular complications. It was first reported in 1984 by Soler and Khardori [1] in a series of 12 patients. Since then, over 200 cases have been described in the literature, mostly in women, diagnosed by mammography, ultrasound or magnetic resonance imaging [2-4]. 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose imaging with positron emission tomography in combination with computed tomography is a recently introduced technique mainly for the diagnosis, staging and follow-up of malignant conditions. However, it can sometimes be misleading especially when inflammatory benign conditions are involved [5]. We report here a male patient with IDDM and Hodgkins’ lymphoma who developed a FDG-avid mass in his right breast several months after the completion of chemotherapy, posing a diagnostic dilemma.

Generalized lymph node activation after Influenza vaccination on 18F FDG-PET/CT imaging, an important pitfall in PET interpretation
We report on a 59-year-old female patient with an infected vascular graft investigated with 18F FDG-PET/CT. The first of two studies showed FDG activity in the left deltoid and ipsilateral axillary lymph nodes explained by influenza vaccination the day prior. The second 18F FDG-PET/CT showed multiple FDG-avid lymph nodes on both sides of the diaphragm without tracer accumulation at the vaccinat...

BMJ Case Rep 2017. doi:10.1136/bcr-2017-220820 Description A 70-year-old woman with controlled type 2 diabetes mellitus and hypertension presented for evaluation of chronic abdominal discomfort. An incidental 3.2×3.5×3 cm left adrenal mass was identified on CT. Physical examination revealed obesity stage 2 without a Cushingoid appearance and controlled hypertension with...
متن کاملWhole-body positron emission tomography using 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose for posttreatment evaluation in Hodgkin's disease and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma has higher diagnostic and prognostic value than classical computed tomography scan imaging.
A residual mass after treatment of lymphoma is a clinical challenge, because it may represent vital tumor as well as tissue fibrosis. Metabolic imaging by 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) positron emission tomography (PET) offers the advantage of functional tissue characterization that is largely independent of morphologic criteria. We compared 18F-FDG PET to computed tomography (CT) in the pos...

A 58-year-old woman with bilateral lower limb varicose veins and Burkitt lymphoma underwent positronemission tomography/computed tomography (PET-CT) to exclude lymphoma relapse. PET-CT images did not show any suspicious lesion suggestive of malignancy. However, intense 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) uptake focus was detected in the left lung without a corresponding CT abnormality. Follow-up PET-C...

We report a case of Hodgkin lymphoma (classic type) referred for response assessment after two cycles of chemotherapy with ABVD regiment. The F-18 fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (F-18 FDG PET/CT) showed hypermetabolic cutaneous and subcutaneous lesions with a linear pattern in the left arm with significant F-18 fluorodeoxyglucose positron accumulation in associate with left axi...
