A New Rapid Flood Inundation Model
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this study, we propose a new Rapid Flood Inundation Model (RFIM). The purpose of the RFIM is to generate predictions of water depth and flood extent using less computer resource than required by two-dimensional shallow water equation models (SWEMs). To be useful the RFIM must produce predictions that are comparable with those obtained from SWEMs. The model described here is an improvement on previous RFIMs as it dynamically adjusts the head driving the flood flow to account for the rate of flood inflow and the frictional resistance of the floodplain. This allows the RFIM to adapt predictions of inundation extent to surface characteristics to the area over which the water is spreading. Improvements in the technique are demonstrated by application has been applied to an area of urban floodplain in Thamesmead, London, UK. This demonstrates that the method significantly improves the level of agreement between the proposed RFIM and a SWEM when compared with the performance of a previous spreading algorithm.

Applications of Satellite-Based Rainfall Estimates in Flood Inundation Modeling - A Case Study in Mundeni Aru River Basin, Sri Lanka
The performance of Satellite Rainfall Estimate (SRE) products applied to flood inundation modelling was tested for the Mundeni Aru River Basin in eastern Sri Lanka. Three SREs (PERSIANN, TRMM, and GSMaP) were tested, with the Rainfall-Runoff-Inundation (RRI) model used as the flood inundation model. All the SREs were found to be suitable for applying to the RRI model. The simulations created by...
متن کاملIdentification areas with inundation potential for urban runoff harvesting using the support vector machine model
Rainfall-runoff from urban areas is one of the available water resources, which is wasted due to lack of attention and proper management. Besides, urban runoff excess of drains capacity causing many problems including inundation and urban environmental pollution. Therefore, harvesting this runoff can provide a part of the required water in urban areas, and also reduce flood and urban inund...

The area of the Dansuie River watershed located in the northern Taiwan is 2,726 km. The main stream runs 159km through the Taipei metropolitan areas as the political, economic, and cultural centers of Taiwan. Owing to short and steep runoff path-lines and non-uniform rainfall patterns, large floods arrive rapidly in the middle-to-downstream reaches of the watershed, causing serious damage. In o...

Because of urban rapid growth of Iran, some problems such as propagation of environmental pollutions, urban inundation and flood hazards due to lack of appropriate drainage systems and irregularity of conduits & streams are the major difficulties in urban watersheds. Because of hydrological & hydraulic processes complexities in urban area, using of computer models would be effective. In this st...
متن کاملA Quasi-2D Bayesian network model for assessments of coastal inundation pathways and probabilities
Coastal flood assessments often require the analysis of a complex system of flood sources, pathways and receptors. This can be challenging for traditional numerical modelling approaches. In this paper we use a Bayesian networks approach to assess coastal floodplains as networks of inter-linked elements. A Bayesian network (Bn) model is built to describe flood pathways and estimate flood extents...
