Dielectric properties of a clay soil determined in the frequency range from 1 MHz to 40 GHz

چکیده
This contribution presents a dielectric spectroscopy study in which four different devices in combination with five different probes were used in order to measure the complex effective relative permittivity of a fine-grained soil in a frequency range from 1 MHz to 40 GHz. Subsequently, the dielectric measurements were combined to obtain a permittivity curve over the entire frequency range. Measured dielectric spectra were parameterized based on a generalized fractional relaxation model of Cole-Cole type to interpret the relative complex dielectric permittivity dependent on the frequency.

Introduction: Mars is the subject of several present and future radar investigations over the frequency range 1 MHz to 1GHz investigating the physical properties of the Martian surface and subsurface. A primary objective of the ESA orbital sounding radars, MARSIS (0.5-5 MHz) and SHARAD (15-25 MHz) is to map the Martian subsurface looking for evidence of subsurface water. The scientific return f...

Several silicate materials were plasma sprayed and characterized by the authors in recent years from the point of view of their chemical and phase compositions, microstructure and mechanical as well as thermal properties. Present work is concerned with selected dielectric properties of these deposits. Synthetic mullite and steatite as well as natural olivine-forsterite were plasma sprayed using...
متن کاملNon-linearity of Soil Dielectric Constant as a Function of Radar Frequency and Soil Moisture Content
Soil is a mixture of four components: air, free water, bound water and soil particles. The microwave dielectric constant of soil is strongly dependent on the soil moisture content. The dielectric constant is a measure of the response of a material to an applied electric field, such as an electromagnetic wave. It has a real and an imaginary component. Soil particles’ dielectric constant depends ...
