چکیده

IEEE 802.11 based Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) system has been rapidly developed and deployed. With limitations of the standard and rapidly growing wireless application demand, the air interface acts as bottleneck even in high-speed WLAN systems such as 802.11a and 802.11g. To improve overall performance of 802.11 WLAN under large deployment and heavy application demand environment, a novel agent-based Radio Resource Management is proposed with the help of proposed low-cost sectored semi-smart antennas. With dynamically changing radio cover patterns of Access Point (AP) and agent negotiation, simulation results show great dramatic system performance improvement over traditional configurations. Issues of implementation are also discussed in this paper.

A Framework for Decentralized Wireless LAN Resource Management

The proliferation of wireless local area network (WLAN) deployments in enterprises, public areas, and homes will cause frequent geographical coverage overlap among multiple networks. A recent growing interest is the coordination among WLAN providers for efficient resource management over a large coverage area. While radio resource management for a single WLAN has been studied extensively, littl...

Agent-based Load Balancing of WLAN in In-door usage

To improve the performance of 802.11 WLAN systems under congestion conditions, an agent-based radio resource management system is proposed that can dynamically change an Access Point’s radio coverage pattern. A low-cost four sector semi-smart antenna array is used for access points. With a distributed simulation system using Multi-Agent Platform, we present statistical results showing system pe...

Common radio resource management for WLAN-UMTS integration at radio access level

WLAN-UMTS integration in the UMTS-based approach can be performed either at the UMTS Core Network (CN) or Radio Access Network (UTRAN). Both interworking solutions provide the operator with additional license-free bandwidth and promise good handover performance. Integration at the radio access level has the advantage that the UMTS core network protocols remain unaffected and the interworking ar...
