چکیده

Cogswell, J. J. (1973). Archives of Disease in Childhood, 48, 259. Forced oscillation technique for determination of resistance to breathing in children. A method for measuring total respiratory resistance (RT) using a forced oscillation technique was applied to children between 3 and 12 years of age. RT at midinspiration was higher than airway resistance (Raw) measured on the same children by total body plethysmography. Normal RT values were compared with results in children with asthma and cystic fibrosis. It is suggested that the technique could have a wider application in the assessment of airway obstruction in children.

Respiratory impedance response to a deep inhalation in asthmatic children with spontaneous airway obstruction.

The aim of the study was to determine whether the bronchomotor effect of a deep inhalation (DI) may be detected during tidal breathing in asthmatic children with spontaneous airway obstruction (AO). Two groups of children aged 5-15 yrs were studied. AO was mild in group 1 (n=12, forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1) > or = 75% predicted) and moderate-to-severe in group 2 (n=9, FEV1 > or...

The forced oscillation technique in clinical practice: methodology, recommendations and future developments.

The forced oscillation technique (FOT) is a noninvasive method with which to measure respiratory mechanics. FOT employs small-amplitude pressure oscillations superimposed on the normal breathing and therefore has the advantage over conventional lung function techniques that it does not require the performance of respiratory manoeuvres. The present European Respiratory Society Task Force Report ...

Respiratory function in healthy young children using forced oscillations.

BACKGROUND Monitoring of respiratory function is important in the diagnosis and management of respiratory disease. The forced oscillation technique requires minimal patient cooperation and is ideal for the determination of respiratory function in young children. This study aimed to develop reference ranges and to document the repeatability in healthy young children using commercially available ...

بررسی ارتباط هیپرتروفی آدنوئید با زوایای سفالومتریک قاعده جمجمه

Background and Aim: Adenoids are normally large in children and their size starts to reduce during adolescence. Hypertrophic adenoids could be associated with allergic reactions. Enlarged adenoids result in nasal breathing difficulties and the child is forced to switch to mouth breathing. Airway obstruction causes postural alterations of jaw, tongue and head, and due to persistent obstruction, ...

Servocontrolled generator to measure respiratory impedance from 0.25 to 26 Hz in ventilated patients at different PEEP levels.

Assessing respiratory impedance (Zrs) in ventilated patients over a wide frequency band, ranging from breathing rates to typical forced oscillation frequencies, during end-expiratory pauses at different positive end-expiratory pressures (PEEP) is of potential interest to assess a patient's respiratory mechanics. Zrs measurements under these conditions are not possible with the present variants ...
