چکیده

We briefly describe a model which seems to be applicable to a variety of coalescence growth systems. Spanning cluster growth, particle growth and hillockformation in thin metal f%ns, this model is based on the Smoluchowski kinetic equations and fractals. We describe how this model has been able to suggest the e$ect of translational to internal energy conversion in coalescing systems in determining the shape of particle size distributions. We also suggest how this model can be employed to accountfor the behavior of hillocks in supersaturated alloy films under thermal annealing conditions.

Population Balance Modelling of Zirconia Nanoparticles in Supercritical Water Hydrothermal Synthesis

Like any other precipitation process, in supercritical water hydrothermal synthesis (SWHS), the need to improve product quality and minimize production cost requires understanding and optimization of Particle Size Distribution (PSD). In this work, using Population Balance Equation (PBE) containing nucleation and growth terms, the reactive precipitation of zirconia nanoparticles prepared by ...

Modelling the catalyst fragmentation pattern in relation to molecular properties and particle overheating in olefin polymerization

A two-dimensional single particle finite element model was used to examine the effects of particle fragmental pattern on the average molecular weights, polymerization rate and particle overheating in heterogeneous Ziegler-Natta olefin polymerization. A two-site catalyst kinetic mechanism was employed together with a dynamic two-dimensional molecular species in diffusion-reaction equation. The i...

Mathematical modeling the effect of catalyst initial shape and the crack pattern in olefin copolymerization

A two-dimensional (2D) single particle model for the copolymerization of propylene-ethylene with heterogeneous Ziegler-Natta catalyst is developed. The model accounts for the effects of the initial shape of the catalyst and carck/ pore patterns on the copolymer composition, polymerization rate and the average molecular weight properties. The spherical and oblate ellipsoidal shapes of catalyst p...

On the time-averaging of ultrafine particle number size spectra in vehicular plumes

Ultrafine vehicular particle (<100 nm) number size distributions presented in the literature are mostly averages of long scan-time (∼30 s or more) spectra mainly due to the non-availability of commercial instruments that can measure particle distributions in the <10 nm to 100 nm range faster than 30 s even though individual researchers have built faster (1–2.5 s) scanning instruments. With the ...

Numerical Simulation of Separation Bubble on Elliptic Cylinders Using Three-equation k-? Turbulence Model

Occurrence of laminar separation bubbles on solid walls of an elliptic cylinder has been simulated using a recently developed transitional model for boundary layer flows. Computational method is based on the solution of the Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations and the eddy-viscosity concept. Transitional model tries to simulate streamwise fluctuations, induced by freestream turbulen...
