Inhibition by somatostatin (growth-hormone release-inhibiting hormone, GH-RIH) of gastric acid and pepsin and G-cell release of gastrin.

چکیده
Somatostatin (cyclic growth-hormone release-inhibiting hormone--GH-RIH) was infused into dogs with gastric fistulae. Somatostatin inhibited gastric acid response to four gastric stimulants--insulin, food, histamine, and pentagastrin. Histamine- and pentagastrin-stimulated pepsins were inhibited similarly to inhibition of acid. Somatostatin inhibited the gastrin response to insulin and food.

Effect of growth hormone-release inhibiting hormone on hormones stimulating exocrine pancreatic secretion.
The nature and extent of growth hormone-release inhibiting hormone (GH-RIH, somatostatin)-induced inhibition of pancreatic secretion of bicarbonate and protein, an index of enzyme secretion, were studied by administration of exogenous secretin or cholecystokinin (CCK) and of a number of stimulants for endogenous release of these hormones in fasted pancreatic fistula dogs with and without an inf...
متن کاملEffect of esophagus distension on gastric blood flow, gastrin and somatostatin secretion in rat
Abstract Introduction: There are many studies about the inhibitory effect of the esophageal distention (ED) on gastric motility. Recently, it has been shown that ED decreases the gastric secretions. It is well established that the inhibitory effect of ED is mediated by activation of vago-vagal inhibitory reflex. However, there is not any investigation about the effect of the reflex on the gast...
متن کاملVagal regulation of acid secretion and gastrin release.
The vagus nerve plays a central role in the regulation of gastric acid secretion and gastrin release. The current understanding of the mechanisms involved in vagal regulation of acid secretion and gastrin release is reviewed. Thyrotropin-releasing hormone from the medullary raphe nuclei appears to be the central excitatory mediator of vagal action in the dorsal motor nucleus. Vagal stimulation ...
متن کاملGlycine-extended gastrin enhances somatostatin release from cultured rabbit fundic D-cells
The role of the peptide hormone gastrin in stimulating gastric acid secretion is well established. Mature amidated gastrin is processed from larger peptide precursor forms. Increasingly these processing intermediates, such as glycine-extended gastrin (G-Gly) and progastrin, have been shown to have biological activities of their own, often separate and complementary to gastrin. Although G-Gly is...
متن کاملThe effects of neuroactive peptides on growth hormone release.
The plasma concentration of growth hormone fluctuates rhythmically over a 24 h period; in humans a major peak of release follows the onset of sleep and smaller peaks occur during ‘unstressed sedentary wakefulness’ (Parker et al. 1979). It can also be altered acutely by insulin-hypoglycaemia, amino acids, neurotransmitters or their precursors agonists or antagonists and by some peptides. These c...
