چکیده

The recurring nature of CDI is a difficult-to-treat problem which has a substantial impact on hospitalisations, extending length of stay, hospital costs associated with isolation rooms and decontamination, and patients’ quality of life [5]. Cases of mild-moderate CDI are usually treated in the outpatient setting while patients with severe CDI are typically hospitalized. However, even mild-moderate cases can result in hospitalisation particularly in weak, frail, elderly patients with serious concomitant morbidity such as cancer. Knowledge about the length of stay and the total costs of treating patients with CDI are limited.

Update of Clostridium difficile infection due to PCR ribotype 027 in Europe, 2008.

Outbreaks of Clostridium difficile infections (CDI) with increased severity, high relapse rate and significant mortality have been related to the emergence of a new, hypervirulent C. difficile strain in North America and Europe. This emerging strain is referred to as PCR ribotype 027 (Type 027). Since 2005, individual countries have developed surveillance studies about the spread of type 027.C....

The objective of this study was to characterize the burden of CDI on 30-day hospital readmissions at a tertiary care health-system. METHODS A patient discharge database was used to identify patients with a CDI ...

Detection of Virulence Genes of Clostridium difficile in Children with Cancer by Multiplex PCR

Introduction: Toxigenic Clostridium difficile is the major cause of antibiotic-associated diarrhea, colitis, and pseudomembranous colitis. The pathogenicity of C. difficile is related to toxins A&B. Children with cancer are at risk of developing C. difficile infection (CDI) due to increased exposure to antibiotics, immunosuppression, and longer hospital stays. Recently, due to higher sensitivity...
