Six percent citric acid better than hydrogen peroxide in removing smear layer: an in vitro pilot study.

چکیده
The smear layer in endodontically instrumented root canals first reported in 19751 is both organic and inorganic in composition. 2 The inorganic material in the smear layer is composed of tooth structure and some nonspecific inorganic contaminants. 2 The organic components may consist of heated coagulated proteins, necrotic or viable pulp tissue, and odontoblastic processes plus saliva, blood cells, and microorganisms. 2

A comparative study of smear layer removal and erosion in apical intraradicular dentine with three irrigating solutions: a scanning electron microscopy evaluation.
INTRODUCTION This study compared the efficacy of BioPure MTAD (Dentsply Tulsa, Tulsa, OK), 17% EDTA, and 42% citric acid in endodontic smear layer removal and degree of erosion in the apical third of endodontic canals. METHODS Ninety-six extracted single-rooted human teeth were randomized into four groups (n = 24) and instrumented using System GT nickel-titanium rotary instruments (Dentsply T...
متن کاملEffectiveness of Different Irrigation Regimes on the Removal of Smear Layer in the Middle And Apical Thirds of Root Canals – A Scanning Electron Microscopic Study
Aim: To evaluate the effectiveness of four different irrigation regimes on removal of smear layer and smear plugs at the tubular apertures in the middle and apical thirds of the root canals by using Scanning Electron Microscopy(SEM). Settings and Design: In vitro material science study. Materials and methods: Twenty human mandibular first premolars were used for this study. The teeth were divid...
متن کاملEffect of sequential treatments with sodium dodecyl sulfate and citric acid or hydrogen peroxide on the reduction of some foodborne pathogens on eggshell
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), citric acid, and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), alone or in combination, on reducing the population of four foodborne pathogens, including Escherichia coli, Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella typhimurium, and Staphylococcus aureus on eggshells. In each series of tests, eight fresh eggs were inoculated with each bact...
متن کاملEffect of six different peri-implantitis disinfection methods on in vivo human oral biofilm.
OBJECTIVE The aim of this human in vivo pilot study was to evaluate the efficacy of six antimicrobial agents on the surface decontamination of an oral biofilm attached to titanium implants. DESIGN For in vivo biofilm formation, we fixed titanium specimens to individual removable acrylic upper jaw splints (14 specimens in every splint), which were worn by four volunteers overnight for 12 h. Th...
متن کاملA scanning electron microscopic evaluation of root canal wall cleanliness after calcium hydroxide removal using three irrigation regimens.
AIMS The aims of this in vitro study were to evaluate debris and smear layer elimination capability effectiveness of 5.25% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) after calcium hydroxide removal from the root canal and to determine if ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) and citric acid have any additional effects on debris and smear layer removal. METHODS AND MATERIALS All irrigation regimens are asso...
