It results from injury to the developing brain during the antenatal, perinatal or postnatal period. Clinical manifestations are related to the area of central nervous system (CNS) affected. The clinical picture may vary considerably, from high functioning mild monoplegia with normal intellect to severe spastic quadriplegia with mental retardation.
