چکیده

Wide-band-gap oxides have many unique properties that make them ideally suited for applications in energy technologies. They are transparent in the visible, but can be doped to near-metallic conductivities, enabling use as contact layers to optoelectronic devices such as solar cells and light-emitting diodes. They can also be used, passively, in energy-efficient window coatings, or actively in smart windows or transparent electronics for displays. When grown with high crystalline quality and in heterostructures, oxide-based transistors can be used in power electronics that boost the efficiency of power conversion, currently a large source of loss in applications ranging from hybrid cars to data centers. I will discuss how cutting-edge firstprinciples calculations provide key information about materials properties and enable designing new materials combinations for specific applications.

Ambipolar Charge Photogeneration and Transfer at GaAs/P3HT Heterointerfaces.

Recent work on hybrid photovoltaic systems based on conjugated polymers and III-V compound semiconductors with relatively high power conversion efficiency revived fundamental questions regarding the nature of charge separation and transfer at the interface between organic and inorganic semiconductors with different degrees of delocalization. In this work, we studied photoinduced charge generati...

Ultrafast Charge- and Energy-Transfer Dynamics in Conjugated Polymer: Cadmium Selenide Nanocrystal Blends

Hybrid nanocrystal-polymer systems are promising candidates for photovoltaic applications, but the processes controlling charge generation are poorly understood. Here, we disentangle the energy- and charge-transfer processes occurring in a model system based on blends of cadmium selenide nanocrystals (CdSe-NC) with poly[2-methoxy-5-(3',7'-dimethyloctyloxy)-1,4-phenylene vinylene] (MDMO-PPV) usi...

Balanced Dipole Effects on Interfacial Engineering for Polymer/TiO2 Array Hybrid Solar Cells

The polymer/TiO2 array heterojunction interfacial characteristics can be tailored by balanced dipole effects through integration of TiO2-quantum dots (QDs) and N719 at heterojunction interface, resulting in the tunable photovoltaic performance. The changes of V oc with interfacial engineering originate from the shift of the conduction band (E c) edge in the TiO2 nanorod by the interfacial dipol...

Ultrafast Charge Transfer and Enhanced Absorption in MoS2-Organic van der Waals Heterojunctions Using Plasmonic Metasurfaces.

Hybrid organic-inorganic heterostructures are attracting tremendous attention for optoelectronic applications due to their low-cost processing and high performance in devices. In particular, van der Waals p-n heterojunctions formed between inorganic two-dimensional (2D) materials and organic semiconductors are of interest due to the quantum confinement effects of 2D materials and the synthetic ...
